Well, in the continuing saga of Somethingite... (in previous threads, forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=rocksidlib&thread=26667&page=1and forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=wwp&thread=26846&page=1 ), this morning was still warm, so I sliced up this sucker. First cut, started to crumble, and I thought "oh no, Saskrock will be so disappointed", but, never fear, got through the first cut and saw this: Surprised to see the green flash continued through the whole thing: And got pretty cool looking: My Somethingite seems to have fallen to the dark side. Pretty soft, will be a challenge to do something with this... now I'm wondering what a cab will look like! Apologies for the cruddy flash photography. Thanks for looking.

Sounds and looks like somethingite, my first slice crumbled too. Not as much blue and darker but it is close enough for me to think we have the same basic thing. My stuff is pretty soft too, I have found its bad for having little pieces come loose when cabbing. Still I really like somethingite. Nice find naturenut.

Wow that is very pretty. Did I see that before you cut it. The rock might be crumbly from internal cracks. Let it dry out and then squirt it with thin superglue, let it sit for a minute and then wipe off the excess. That should help if it is cracks.

wow, is that a metallic coppery flash in the rock or a photo-artifact? If in the rock, could it be cuprite?

No, that's in the rock! Shows up so much more with the camera flash, but it's definitely there. Cool, the color is similar to some cuprite, hmmm... Tony, thanks for the super glue tip/reminder. I will do it. Yep I showed this one to you on Saturday before we went on our hike. Looked like this: I'm a little afraid to attempt to cab this, Saskrock, but you've given me the impetus to attempt. Thanks!

I am not good at identifying things but I have some apatite that looks like the blue green stuff and maybe it is mixed with some sort of mica or some type of metal. The apatite is pretty soft too. Maybe a 5. No matter what it is, it should really make some pretty cabs! Fran
