I've been out rock hunting, and found these veins of quartz, but muck more crystal like, in that the thin pieces will break, and there are alot of small crystals in cloud-like clumps. But any way, the area has alot of round nodules. Like lead balls and some are grouped together. But I don't know what they are, and don't know if they will tumble any good. They are heavy unlike Apache tears and they are almost perfectly round. Is this worth the cost of the grit? I'd send pictures if I knew the procedure. But I don't want to waste anybodies time if they, in their experiece, have come across these and know the outcome.

Where you are, those nodules might be really something, or just a lump of basalt. You will have to smash a few to find out what is inside. Much better if you have access to a tile saw to slice them. Lava can be found in rainbows, mahogany, red, blue, green. The outside will be black and not look like much. Inside might be the treasure. If they are tecktites, from that area, the inside might be yellow. If they are meteorites, slicing them will show the nickle and iron bands. I think, being just north of Phoenix, they might just be tecktites.

I cut a few in half very delicately with a 3 pound sledge hammer. The outside reminds me of a Blueberry but inside it is swirled, with quartz . Any way, being impatient and figuring "Nothing ventured. nothing gained, I collected a handful and started them tumbling. I'll see what they smooth out to be. I couldn't find any info on various "Rocks and Minerals" sites. They just remind me of marbles. I picked up about a bucketful, I, being a very "manly-man" thought they were cute. So tumble they will! ;D

To Pdwight- Yeah, I found a saddle with alot of these scattered among most of the quartz. If you would like, you can e-mail me and I'll send you some pics first. But I don't mind shipping some off to you after you see them. There are some that are interesting as they look similar to a clump of grapes. But I choose to just tumble some of the round ones with a few halves to begin with. I'll take a look tonight after 24 hours in the 60/90, and see what is shapping up.

Ok, i got it! Those wierd little globs of rock I been finding in with the quartz and calcite is called Rhyolite. I took it down to my local rock shop and he had some the size of volley balls. He said they usually 'cab' it but it can be tumbled as long as it goes at least 2 weeks in the 60-/90, because of some of the pits, and not wanting to contaminate the next step. He had so much rock information, I had to leave, cause all the stuff he was tellingh me was starting to run out my other ear on to the floor. Very interesting this "Rock Stuff".
