December 30th progress I've got part of a sleeve done, I'm not even sure if this is how it goes together. The sleeve will fold back on itself and be attached with large 3/4" rings - I need to get those rings, cuz I have no way of knowing if I'm doing it right - I may be doing all this for nothing... The sleeve looks a bit weird because I decided to make it not so wide - I'd rather add rows instead of doing them for nothing.. Here it is against an old biking T-shirt that I know fits me. This one is to show the whole shirt - I may make it a bit longer in the back - if I let it hang loosely, the back part hangs all the way to the top of the UNK Some of you expressed interest in seeing my progress on this chainmaille vest/shrug that I'm working on - not sure if it should be stickied or just bookmarked. Here is about 1 week's worth of progress - the first 2-3 days I tried to speed weave (weaving a pack of 5 rings into 11 rings to form a "ribbon" of chain & then weaving that ribbon to the previous section) Well I spent those 2-3 days correcting errors that I made along the way and I then decided to ditch the speedweaving & stick to the slow but sure progress of weaving a couple of rings at a time. Here is my progress so far: it's a strange weave, hang it one way and it opens up fully & shortens in length, hang in the other way and it closes the weave (to allow to stretch) but lengthens. It's about 12"x14" so far - still a long way to go Full shot Close up of weave This is how it smushes up Thanks for looking

Hey Tony, isn't that Mike Rowe? You two look a lot alike I think you'd need something out of stainless steel instead of aluminum & a smaller tighter weave... the one I'm making would make you shark bait!

I was just kidding around, but that was what popped into my head. After seeing your work I do think you have the talent to make one however, don't they make stainless loops?

Tweet, do you solder each of this rings, or do you use some other method to fasten the ends so they won't pull apart?....Mel

These are only butted together - no soldering - you can get some types of rings that are riveted - aluminum rings might pull apart if you pulled really hard on them
Stainless rings - yes there are some - but this project will weigh about 5 pounds when done in aluminum - in stainless, it would probably be close to 15-20 pounds

Boy that is going to be a lot of work. I don't think I could ever get the design right. I admire your talent and patience.

Thanks Tweetie for posting pics. The symmetry is awesome. I have to say you must have the patience of a saint. Just curious, about how many rings have you used so far?
I'm looking forward to more picks as you progress. It's really neat watching a project in progress.

I've started working on a sleeve - yeah! I still need to buy the large rings (next year) - it's taking me longer cuz I sometimes spend an hour or two just pre-closing a bunch of rings. I may put a stop to that & do that as I go along.
I'm still not clear how to put this all together once I get far enough. I have a feeling I'll be doing a lot of taking apart soon. I'm just hoping it all fits like it should.

I'm partway done - much messing around and much time spent pre-closing all my rings - hubby hates it - watching TV and all he hears is click-click, plink-plink - spoink! I still have to mess with the sleeves to get them to fit right, (reducing rings in certain - unknown to me at this time - spots) but I'm plowing through with the rest and hopefully I'll be done everything else I won,t be discouraged by having to fiddle with the sleeves at the end I forgot to add the T-Shirt in the picture - the length is the same but the sleeves are now about 3/4 length and I've added the large rings - the sleeve looks funny cuz I've just added the large rings to be able to join the sleeve
