Here is a Mica book I found at a mine dump area. I had never seen one this large before. The coloring isn't quite what it should be in this picture: Here is the back view and the colors are good in this one: This is the side view. You can still see a piece of Amazonite connected to the book

Ok Fran, I was commenting on your post and when I was done and went to click reply, everything came up error message and then your post vanished. I logged out and logged back in to see if it was me or the board. It was gone, nada, poof. And now it's back up. Well, what ever happened, I'm glad it's back up cause I really like that Mica. Is the amazonite off to the left?

It sure is. I kept having a problem loading it and then it froze so i didn't think it loaded so I hit the refresh and everything finally straitened out. When I would preview the pictures, they were sideways. I think it was a glitch with photobucket (or me). I was surprised when I picked this up to see how heavy it is. I guess because it is really about a MOH 2 it made me think it would be light. I was wrong. When it is not having it's picture taken, it is on a shelf in the living room. Fran

It's really pretty. Years ago we stumbled on to the Ruggles Mine in NH. This was way before I had an interest in rock. Well, my husband, I and the kids brought home a lot of Mica books along with other rocks like quartz and rose quartz. We kept it for about two years then I did the unthinkable, I threw it all out. Back then it was only a bunch of messy rocks to me. dumb, really dumb

Really neat specimen and a big one too. I've actually got a folding candle lantern from about 1900 or so that has mica sheets in it as the windows and I've heard in the olden days they used to even split sheets out of books large enough to use as window panes in homes....Mel

I've not heard the expression "mica book" before. That's very descriptive! Great specimin, thanks for sharing.
We live not too far from the Ruggle Mine, and this thread will inspire me to go there!

Wow Fran!
I love that specimen, what a brilliant example of the variety, and a fabulous looking rock! I've seen Mica in various form, some "in the field", but never such a fine example, really high grade stuff. Nice pickings Buddy, thanks for sharing it with us! And thanks for the extra info all, it's great to learn about such interesting rocks.
Cheers,
Sparkles.
