Where do you guys buy your wire? I have been getting it at a local supplier but would like to maybe purchase online at a cheaper cost. Thank You!

I have had issues with Rio on their sizing. First, never order by guage, you will get shorted in diameter. I order 10ozs at a time in, .020, .025, .028. .032., .051. I order from Stullers now in most of my sizes. Never order by guage, you will get banged.

I order from a local store and I do order by guage and I do notice a slight variance in size sometimes when I'm working with square so I'm sure doc is right but the difference hasn't bothered me very much.
Doc, The way you buy wire, what is the equivalent for 22 and 24 gauge?

22 guage, should be .025, 24 guage should be .020. Guage, they allow 10% tolerance. Guess which way they tolerate.

Hey, Doc! So 20 guage would be .028? I've been using 22 or 21 guage for the square and 20 guage for the half round. Thanks, Tony

Nope, 20ga is .032. Half round is .032 plus height. It is a dual reference.

Thanks, Doc! Hey, Lori, yes I bought 22 square and 22 half round the first time, but felt like the binding wire was just too hard to deal with. I bought some 20 guage to bind the square with and liked it better. I guess my eyesight isn't good enough to enjoy using 22 half round as it just looks and seems so small T

Sheri - Rio Grande is one of my main suppliers (although I don't wrap, I do buy silver wire, plate, fine silver, etc. from them). You need to be a member but there are no wholesale requirements so you just ask for membership. www.riogrande.com Nancy

Nancy You should checkout Santa fe jewelry supply for Silver Sheet it is substantially cheaper than Rio Grande. At Santa Fe 10-28 gauge is $14.73oz for 5oz or less. Gauges 30-32 is $15.23oz. 10-28 gauge is $14.13oz 5oz thru 10oz. " "is $14.48oz if you order between 10-24oz the prices are $13.63 $13.93 And the larger the quantity the cheaper it goes. If you order 100oz or more it's dang near spot price. At Rio Grande 1-6 oz is $15.56oz 6-12oz is $14.76oz 12-25oz is $14.16oz www.sfjssantafe.com/SmetalsItems.php?Gid=SS005&ItemSet=Sterling+Silver+Sheet&DepId=metals&ot=yThat is quite a large price difference you may want to check them out.

I found that Rio Grande is actually a bit more expensive on most of the things. It's possible if I was purchasing in bulk the prices would be better.
1Rockhound - if you're ordering less than 10 oz. of Silver Sheet, Thunderbird Supply is cheaper. They have larger breakdowns - $14.18 / oz. for 24 oz. or less (28Ga. and lower)

Thanks to Jason & akansan - I like SFJS but never bought raw material from them (yet) and will have to check out Thunderbird.

I just got some gold fill from RioGrande...my first time buying from them.....and I was really freaked that it arrived on plastic spools with both ends jammed into holes and twisted to hold it on the spool. I figure I lost 6 inchs or more on each spool because they did that. I think I'll go back to one of my other suppliers for wire. T

Monster Slayer gets most of my business. Haven't had any problems with sizing, and they always have the best prices whenever I shop. 17.30 per oz. right now. Never bought from Rio Grande.
