Last Saturday while in California we went down and spent the day at the beach at Corona Del Mar. A beautiful day out there, and with the cliffs nearby I had the chance to do a little hounding Here's a few pics The beach Some beach rocks There was an area with some of this around, maybe flint? Some neat stuff Some 'pre-drilled' things And a star fish my daughter found And a shot of the sun going down over Huntington Beach on our way out Thanks for looking!

Cool finds. Looks like a great beach. The pre drilled ones are known as Hag Stones click the link to find out more. www.welcometogower.co.uk/2008/05/hag-stones-oxwich.htmlAny hags near you will be scared off by them. Handy to know, if like me you live in an area over run with hags! Thanks for sharing. Simon

Hey Beef: Neat finds! I've found rock similar to that black wood looking stuff on Ventura County beaches when I lived there. Locals variously called it chert or silicified sinter depending on who you asked. It was a very popular material with the Chumash Amerinds who used it for knapping points and is still popular with modern knappers in the area. It always looked just like chert or flint to me....Mel

Those are cool. The brown stone at the bottom left of the second pic is very similar to a stone I found here.

Great pics. I'm glad you had fun and that Petrified tree is awesome. Thanks for including a readable pic of the plaque.
I love beach stone and the fifth pic has some wild ones in it. I wonder who made the holes. That tuby piece is really cool. Rock or coral?

Cool stuff. I wonder how long it must take nature to get them so rounded and smooth like that compared to what it takes us?
