Howdy folks, Well, been doing some decorating in my room that's taking up a lot of my time. Unfortunately, the new house here in Texas is lots of windows and very little wall so I don't have a lot of space for my other great love, blades of steel. ( Hence my nickname-Sabre) Most of my collection will have to stay in storage and maybe I'll just rotate specimens now and then. They're just low end examples but fun decorators anyway as they represent a lot of history. Anyway here are a couple of pics of just the start of my decorating binge as I've finally found some suitable hangers. One corner of my room with a few Indopersian blades and a bouquet o spears: Closer shot of the swords:Need three more sets of hangers to get more higher on the wall.

What's the history behind the wavy-type sword? I can see the other curves coming in handing for different things, but what did the wavy type do?

akansan: The wavy bladed piece is an 18th century shamshir shikagar ( The Indian word shamshir was corrupted to form our word scimitar and the shamshir shikagar is a hunting sword). In theory, the wavy blade cuts better on the draw stroke which is the common fighting stoke used in Indopersian swordplay and creates a wider blood channel when thrust. Actually though, wavy or saw toothed blades are more likely to get caught in the body which is a negative. Smooth curves are more efficient. This hobby has been with me for ages too so as you can see, I tend to blather about blades as much as rocks *LOL*....Mel

Mel: I am going to make sure I stay on your good side, or you will knock me out with a rock to the head, and a good sword stabbing!!!!! Those are cool though, I like the arrangement!!! Amber
