Aren't those females? I thought it was the females that kept the antlers in winter - & the males who regrew them in the spring?
I don't see a pee-pee either!

Gorgeous buck! That's a White Tail, right? I've gotten so used to seeing Mule Deer!

Yeah, this is a large, older White Tail buck.
Hey tweetiepy, my bet is he's tucking that thing up so it don't freeze off! ;D

DO the males lose the antlers? or is that just with reindeer?

Nice pics. Deer are giant walking rats...you can thank the very rapid increase in herd populations to the big increase in the incidence of Lyme disease. We have a herd that hangs around in the area during the winter. They strip my shrubs and generally cause trouble...here's hoping the mountain lion that's been seen in the area takes out more than a few.

Only the male White Tail grow antlers at all. Around here, the deer loose them about Feb/March. By the time all the snow melts April/May, you can already see the new ones coming in. I've picked-up a few sheds. Moose too! Can I cut them with WF and tumble 'em?! LOL

Nice to see a good eight point int he wild. He is not Boone and Crockett, but he is still a nice buck.
Go get some Rabbit Pellets (Alf-Alfa) at the local tractor supply. Put them in a wood box on a tree, and you will have a friend all winter.

Wow nice pics indeed and that one fine looking buck too. Ours here have nice racks but sure are itty bitty fellows. I'm used to our Calif. mulies and and having a hard time getting used to the smaller whitetails. Your whitetails look a lot more like real deer than these Texas minideer.....Mel

Haha, yep, you can cut the antlers on your WF, or with a bone saw. They are not as hard as rocks, so you don't need the diamond blade. Drill some holes in the middle, and sand them smooth, and you have some cool buttons! My dad always did that, and Mom put the buttons on his flannel shirts and jackets. Nice pix! Nice buck! Thanks!

What a beautiful old man! I miss seeing whitetails out here in CA (I used to live back east) - they're far prettier than mulies, IMHO. How the heck did you get so close - excellent photos!!
