My wife, Chris, and I made a trip down to Arizona for Rodney and Jamie's wedding, and we were hoping to get a day or two of rockhounding in also.
Well we didn't get the day or two thing, but we did get 5 solid days of hardcore rock hounding in.
I thought we had taken alot of pictures, but it seems that we must have been too busy hauling or picking rocks. Whatever pictures we did get, I have taken some of the highlights and will post them here.
We are on our way, notice the "I get to go rock hunting" smile?
We decided to go across the Hoover dam, anyone who goes this way.......................DO NOT TAKE THE DAM ROUTE!!! (Sorry for the bad pun)
It took us 3 hours to go 14 miles.
This is a shot of the dam, notice the line of car tail lights going up the road on the other side? There is an even longer line behind us.
The wedding was set in a beautiful desert park with lots of rocks around. Very fitting for 2 diehard rock hounds!! (I even found a small piece of petrified wood laying on the ground right in the wedding area.) Seems like no one got a picture of Rodney and Jamie cutting the wedding cake, well I found one!!!
The next day we went digging for chrysacolla in the rain, I know there is a blue rock at the end of that rainbow!!
On one of those blurred together days, we all went looking for thunder eggs. Rodney and I did manage to get a 300 pounder loaded into Rodney's rock hauler, and I have it in the back of my pickup right now. I will get a picture of it tomorrow when I unload my haul. Until then feast your eyes on this 1,000 plus pounder that was split in half, (the 2 beautiful women are there for size reference.)
Here is a picture of me trying to steal Rodney's rock hauler, (he was onto me though and the ploy didn't work.)
Then we decided that we needed to get closer to the rocks to save on rock hounding down time, so we went and slept in the desert for a couple of nights, here is a picture of our camp.
On the way home Chris and I made a pit stop at Burro Creek, (she was awed at the amount of material there!!), and this sunset is the only picture we managed to get of the whole Burro Creek side trip.
The collecting locations and the amount of material in the immediate area are astounding!!
Thanks Rodney and Jamie for being such gracious hosts!!
Chris and I had such a good time, we plan on making another trip up to visit again next year!!
We also got to stop and visit with Ozzy in Orem and Steve in Clinton on our way home, it was good to see old friends again.
I will try to remember to take pics as I unload stuff, but I am really bad at remembering to do that.
More to follow...................Tony
