This Thread Moved From Specimen Thread. (fiftiesrock---Charles) It was a pretty day today so I stopped at a ‘Road Cut’ I had not visited before and the following are some of what I picked up in about 15 minutes. This is a couple of close ups of one of those that I think is Pet Wood. Is that bark on the first pic or am I reading more into it? Here is the backside. Last week I found a few that were interesting (to me anyway). The following is what I call the Alien Skull. And this is its backside And then I found the Finger Rock And last another rock and in the center was a small green rock (crystal) that was very polished under the loupe. I love these local road cuts and bar ditches.

The first big pic is wood. First picture, bottom left, tan and brown colored is flint. The rest are good old Texas jasper and quartz.
Please use this board for specimens and post your finds under Member Photographs. Thanks!

Very cool finds! I'm tumbling one of those finger rock type flint nodules right now and it's coming out really cool looking. Cool that you have more jasper and wood in your area. What town are you close to? Mostly flint and fossils here......Mel
Mel I am between Bastrop (North) and Lockhart (South) and 20 (East) and 21 (West). I have about 4 lbs of that red jasper and Bastrop county is supposed to be known for its Pet Wood in Texas (or so I am told)
Hey FiftiesRock,
That's a mighty haul for such a short visit! You did great! I love collecting new stuff out "in the field" and there are always new places to stop and look, seems that you found a rich spot there!
I like the Red Jasper the best, but I am biased You should get some lovely tumbles or cabs from them if you polish. I like the Pet-Wood "as-is" though, nice job Buddy!
Cheers,
Sparkles.
Sparkles I have completed some of that red jasper and it seems to me that I have three different shades of red. Yea----the Pet Wood will probably remain as is----I like the bark aspect, and besides I have a lot of other Pet Wood.
