I've been fooling around with the idea of a simplified wirewrap bellcap for some of my vibe cabs. I bounced the idea off of Randy and sent him this pic. Well, Randy got the bright idea of bending the front wire into squiggles down the front of the cab, smashing the heck out it and then filing down the end to a point, to look sort of like this. Back is just a loop. Tried a couple more. I had more of a Native American look in mind. Then Randy did one and showed me, he had more of a snake looking thing in mind (notice the difference in our personalities???) and I tried to mimic. (maybe Randy will post his for us, front and back) I was feeling really spunky, so I did one of these. The wire is attached with epoxy (as evidenced by my fingers). Used my Dremel to shape the end, Randy used a file. Hope you enjoy and gives everybody some new ideas to try. Jo

Oh boy, these are great. It is really neat how it went from idea to actuality and continued on to other ideas with the help of Randy. WTG both of you.

The last one looks like an infinity sign. Would be great for a man to give to his soul mate.

Randy really worked his to look like a snake. WTG, Randy! I was teasing him about showing the front and back. He's out of wire for the moment, and just did a mock-up. Here's a new one I did this one last night... Wish I had filed the end to a point, would make it cleaner.

Cul-Ann, I used 1 piece of wire at first (with a binding wire) which are the two on the outside in the first pic, and then opted for two wires of equal length (with a binding wire) shown in the middle of the first pic.
One wire: I bent it in the middle, bent over my pliers to make the top bale loop. Now there's two ends hanging down. Then I made a loop on front that goes off to the side and made another loop on that side. Then I made the loop at the back with the wire heading to the open side and made the loop there. Then I did the binding that overlapped the tops of the bottom bellcap loops (this was tricky to keep neat and clean and will get better the more you do- the best binding so far was done after the it was epoxied to the cab.)
Two wires: Equal size, side by side. Bend in the middle and make the top bale loop and bind. You have four wires sticking out at the bottom, pull each out in four separate directions (front, back, side and side). Make loops however you like- either looped tucked up, or curled, or looped and left open. This one sat better on the cab.
Hope I'm explaining this clearly. Let me know and I'll do some step-by-step pics.

Always nice to see new ideas. I think a handmade bail is much more interesting than anything mass produced. Keep up exploring those ideas.

What an innovative idea! Different, simple but elegant. I love it so much, I think I'm gonna steal it! I think I can actually do that!
I like the three bells caps. So much nicer than the mass produced ones. And the idea of running the wire down the cabs in various shapes was a great idea. It's really neat looking on the longer stones.
Great job!

Hope I'm explaining this clearly. Let me know and I'll do some step-by-step pics. You explained it clearly, but I would like a pic on how you start the binding wire. I have been trying to do one, but I cannot seem to get the binding going. (Could do it if I had another hand.) I'm sure you're not a 3 handed person, so what's the trick for holding the wires to get the binding started? llana

Very Cool! Perfect organic look for tumbled stones. Makes me want to pull out my bag of tumbles and start banging and glueing! kj

Funny, my BF calls me that all the time! (maybe it's just sweet talk, LOL)
LLana, I bent the end of the binding wire into a hook about a half inch from the end. Then tucked the end into the middle just above the stone between the wires, and started at the bottom, or between the wires at the top and started at the top. I held it with my thumb while I held the whole thing in my left hand while I wrapped with my right.
I'll try to take some pics in the next day to help illustrate. Jo
