Funny, my BF calls me that all the time! (maybe it's just sweet talk, LOL) LLana, I bent the end into a hook about a half inch from the end. Then tucked the end into the middle just above the stone between the wires, and started at the bottom, or between the wires at the top and started at the top. I held it with my thumb while I held the whole thing in my left hand while I wrapped with my right. I'll try to take some pics in the next day to help illustrate. Jo So, you flatten the wire, glue it to the stone and then bring it up and do the bail? Pics will be much appreciated! llana

Ok, here's some for the One Wire Homemade Bell Cap. Used about 5 or 6" of 18 gauge round and 22 gauge round copper for the binding. I'm capping a Peach Moonstone tumbled cab. First, bend in half Use pliers or mandrel to make top bale loop and straighten it up like so. Leave room for the binding and make your first loop. I bent it this way in this direction so that the binding will lay flat later. Make second loop and bent end upward between bale wires where the binding will eventually be. Then use those mad skills on the back too. Create a third hand by taping top with some removable 3M painters tape (or your choice). Then, by using two hammers (or your choice) smash the heck out of each bottom loop, creating a cool looking uneven thickness. (sorry, didn't realize last pic was blurry) Now try it on the top of the cab and work it so it lays flat and glue. Now, let dry. I rushed this last night trying to put this tute together in a hurry and made a huge, gluey, mucky mess (but at least I didn't glue my fingers together this time ). I used a quickie jewelry metal glue, but the better stuff is Hughes 330 epoxy. Which takes a little technique to use-- see Randy's tutorial for gluing bell caps: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=trtphoto&action=display&thread=27080&page=1Letting it dry now, will post the next part when it's ready (not gonna rush this one!)

Let me guess... silver barbed wire and snake fangs??? LOL. JK. Can't wait to see what it is, Randy. (The man is an idea-machine!) OK, after letting the bale dry for a sufficient period of time, you got this. Trim the inner end wires to be contained inside the binding and even. Make a hook with the binding wire and start at the back like so. Wrap it nice and tight and try to cover the tops of the bottom bale loops if you can. Squish it down so that it's tight. Trim end wires and try to tuck in if you can. And there you have it! A single wire Homemade Bellcap! Hope this helps!

Really nice! I think the rustic, hammered look really compliments the tumbled stones and looks much, much more really artistic than the "store bought" bell caps. Great idea and inspiring for all of us that are always looking for new ideas. Susan2
