Makes a big difference in the end result using the better wire doesn't it? Now what pliers did you use? standard needle nose or those funky ones they have out with the narrow tip? I am going to sit back and take notes here cuz I have my first cabs coming - and will be a newbie right along with ya

The basic idea is correct, especially regarding the seccond pendant. The main wires might be bent such as they would follow the contour of the stone as close as possible. Also tighten the binding wire. Anyway, the record of the most "orriginal" first wrap still holds: it was a while ago, one or two years ago, when someone (don't remember who, please bump it if you read this) posted a completely one of a kind first wrap, a blue stone as I remember. I found tumbled stones having irregular shape very difficult to wrap, a cab is more cooperative. If you don't have cabs, search for some flat tumbled stones and practice with them. Adrian

Thanks! BTW, kentuckyrocker, I use skinny nose pliers, but I have no clue what I'm doing, 1. I'm very very new at this, 2. I'm a young bull with hardly any patients. ;D I'm working on another right now, and trying to make it better than the second one, We'll see how it turns out. Thanks! ;D

LOL! BW, I am an old cow and all thumbs so it ought to be pretty damn amusing when I get my turn with the wire ........ yes. very very new. Started with making jewelry and falling inlove with the rocks- now to saving up money so I can cut my own. oh well, beats having a habit that requires bail money - hmmm, this does require bail money.... aw well

I hope I can do that well on mine. Much nicer. I have some cabs I got cheap to play with - I have one I bought , a richterite , when I get really good, I will wrap that one.

No, all round, but I'm using a littler gauge wire rather than 20 for the bindings, I don't have any of the right material right now, just practicing. I don't really know where to find the half round or square wires. Just picked up a couple rounds at the local micheal's craft store one day. I just wrapped it real tight to get it to look somewhat like the neater professional ones.

That third one looks really nice! That stone that you used in the first wrap deserved a better wrapping, for sure. The progress from the first to the third one is outstanding.

My first wrap was AWFUL but my daughter kept it and refuses to let me redo it because it was moms first and is special.
As others have said, you have made great progress from your first to third wrap. Keep practicing!

Yep, you are moving right along! I had been using the craft wire too. I first ordered some copper wire that had the square and half round and that was really nice to work with. I just got the silver in and I am not having good luck with it so far...If I ever get what I am working on to come out I will post. I have a vision in my mind and not the mad skills I need to do it. Just stubborn enough to keep trying. I really like the redo you have there! Love the druzy area in the center of the stone and it is accented really well with the wrap. Keep up the good work! Fran

You made great leaps from the first to third. Looks like you are really starting to get the hang of it.

Yep, great progress real fast! YOu will be amazed at how much better it is using square and half round wire. YOu can get copper pretty cheaply to practice with...and I actually like copper for some of my best cabs, though gold and silver has the prestige. Tony

WOW BW
You are getting much better!!! I gave up on wire wrapping, you are doing great, and if anyone can help it is these talented people on here, that last one and the white one are looking good. Better than my first ones which were my last ones, hahahaha.

Here are some from yesterday. I know the first one is out of proportion to the rock, but I couldn't resist trying one of the real fancy ones. (I need to work on my fundamentals) The Second one was real hard to do, because that agate was really thin, like, PAPER thin! (It sorta chipped a little on the edges) The third one is another fancy one, but it displays the rock much better...the swirlies got tightened and brought up a little after the picture was taken, so the rock is more visible. ;D Hope you like them! Front of the wraps Thanks for all the great advice!!! ;D
