I'm going to try this just one more time. I just spent an hour downloading my photo's from my camera to my computer, then uploading to Photobucket, typing my message and copying links. Then I hit the preview button and it all looked good, Now, I really don't know if it was me or the computer that had the "Senior Moment" (we're both getting up there in years), but when I hit return it all went away, everything, completely blank. Now that might not be a problem for those of you that can type with more than two fingers, but for me it was a little frustrating. I guess I should be glad that I can remember what it was that I started out to do. ;D So here goes. Just like alot of you, I've been going a little cabin crazy from just looking out the window at the snow. So yesterday the wife and I took a chance and drove west to Wendover, Utah to see if they had any snow out there. We were really lucky, the ground was snow-free and dry. This is a shot overlooking the valley we were in. My truck is just a speck a liitle left of center in this picture. I unloaded my Quad and rode up as high as the trail went. It was quite a view from up there, this was looking west from the top. These were looking east, toward the Bonneville Salt Flats. And this one was north. I didn't find anything on this hill, but on the next one over to the south I found neat stuff everywhere. Unfortunately, I got so busy loading up my buckets that I forgot to take more pictures until I was back at the truck. All in all, a great day. The temp was in the forties and NO SNOW! ;D ;D Now this last picture has nothing to do with rocks, but the wife wants to share it. We were driving her car a little while back (before the cold and snow) and my little buddy Bobby decided that this was the place to ride. I'm having a tough time convincing that it isn't. But he's so damn cute.

Hey Tony, good to hear from you! It was a lot of fun getting out there, I'm sure glad the price of deisel got down to where I can take a little trip like that without taking out a second mortgage. Even out there deisel was only $2.23 a gallon. Sure hope it holds through spring and summer, I'm looking forward to another Delta trip this spring and a Challis trip later on. Naturenut, I have to expand a little on the Bobby picture. Since that pic was taken things have changed a little. The wife's car is a Mustang convertible and we have 3 dogs, one of them large. So Bobby was having a hard time seeing out the windows. Since then I put a couple of pillows in the well behind the seat and he jumps back there and lays down and can look out the windows and watch for cows. Bobby REALLY likes cows. ;D

I loved all the beautiful pictures you have here and you had some great finds but I think the best find of all is your buddy Bobby. He is sure a cutie! Fran

Looks like you can ride the quad to where you want to go, that is getting rare nowdays, and you found some nice looking material. I am headed out in the morning to collect near Mount Saint Helens, WA. We are supposed to have SUN, no rain, and a high around fifty! It will be a lot diferent than what you photographed........we have trees, and mud the rock hides under. Woody

Thanks for sharing your trip and kudos on your persistance with the photobucket/ posting probs. You took great shots of the scenery and what your found is awesome but the best part imho was your reply telling how you set up a spot so your buddy could look out the window comfortably. I just loved that part.

Northshorerocks- It was your thread about excavating the BFR that shamed me into getting out of the house and doing something. I thought if you and bwcachick could get out in That weather, I had to be a real wuss to let a few inches of snow and +30 degrees keep me home. My wife was born back in your area (Little Falls) and we've been back to visit the family still in the Twin Cities area. But not since I picked up this nasty rock habit. The last time we were there, I thought a Laker was somebody that played basketball. Now I want to plan a trip so I can search for one. Woodyrock- I've read that 75% of Utah is public land, so there is alot of riding area, they're even making some trails available close to town (but they're all snowed in now). But out in the west desert you can ride for miles without seeing anyone else. We've been up in your area just one time. In 2002 we hooked up the trailer and set out for Glacier Park, and then just headed west after touring the park. We crossed northern Idaho and then crossed Washington through Spokane and Mt Rainier Nat. Park. I wasn't sure even my diesel truck was going to pull my trailer over this pass. Then we continued out to the coast. What a beautiful state! As you can see, we're more used to brown rather than green here. We'll be back again, but next time I'll be hunting rocks. Frane and Sitnwrap- Bobby came to live with us just over a year ago and he has made himself a part of the family. He has 2 other buddies, Buster (the big black one) and Charlie (the Terrier). They go everywhere with us, this is hunting agate in SW Wyoming. They didn't find much, but Sharri and I did! ;D

Roger...LOL! Glad to be of assistance, long distance so to speak! Wish I could have been there in person. Winter hounding isn't bad. Different, but still fun!
Great adventure and great Rocks!

You made a great haul of the rocks!
Beautiful pics of the scenery. I am so wishin' I was there. Scenery here in my little corner of Texas is beautiful, but no cool rocks.
Bobby is a cutie-pie! Loves cows! LOL!

llana- What corner of Texas is that? I spent 1 year at Fort Bliss (El Paso) going to school and 1 year on a Nike site west of Weatherford during my Army time in the 60's. My misfortune, I hadn't yet discovered rocks at that time. And yes, Bobby just loves cows. He even watches for them on TV. My wife has recorded one of those "Happy California Cows" commercials on the DVR so she can play it back for him whenever she needs a laugh.

Beef, I think Quads were really invented just for rockhounders. You can cover such large amounts of territory and with a couple of baskets or buckets bungeed on the racks, you don't have to lug them all the way back to the truck. And as for the "good stuff", the rest of us out here think that you DO find the good stuff! ;D

DeanW, Yeah, it is a great area. And if you can't find any rocks, you're only 20 minutes away from the Casinos in West Wendover, Nevada. Of course, if you can't find any rocks here, you'd probably be wise to stay away from the casinos. ;D

Wow, beautiful pictures and scenery. What a serene setting to collect. You found some real nice pieces, should be interesting to see them slabbed up.
