I've never bought wire before, so perhaps you could tell me if £40.00 ($60.00) is expensive for 200 meters (650ft) of 24 guage half round half hard sterling silver wire.
Thanks in advance,

That's actually an amazing price. 24G Half-round is hard to come by, but the real kicker is the actual amount of silver. You're talking about +/- 10 oz. of silver there (22G comes to 11.7 oz.), which is selling for over $11/oz.
The price of that wire is less than the value of silver right now, without even being worked (made half-hard, half-round).

From what I can find, it looks like you are getting a really killer deal. I found that it would be around $400 for the same 650 ft of wire here. But, I would like to know a couple of things. Where are you getting this wire? I'd gladly sign up for those prices! ;D Also, I noticed that you mentioned it's for half-round wire. Do you plan to do entire wraps with it? I only bring this up because half-round is almost exclusively used for binding wire with the actual wrap wire being round or square...in my experience of course. Although, it does boil down to a matter of preference. Maybe others here will have better thoughts on this. Great find. Rus

Actually, I wasn't going to buy any yet, just checking out the price.
Seems this particular supplier is selling all 24 guage wire at the same price. Be it round, half round or square. I only used half round because it was the first one I came to.

Thats a killer deal. Do you realize that there is about 13.5 ounces of silver in the 24 gauge wire or 48 feet per ounce. The current silver value is $11.22 an ounce which values that wire at $151.47 in just silver value. Buy it as you will make money.

Yep, we'd all like to get some of that. Even with international shipping we'd do real well. T

A thought though...better check it is solid sterling and not silver fill. T

Hmm. Sounds like the supplier is taking a loss by the calculations. It might not be solid sterling like Tony suggests or something. If it wounds too good to be true it probably is. Don't mean to rain on your parade... if it is solid and that is the price then awesome! Steve

OK, just checked out this supplier website again. Just to make sure that what I said was correct.
2000cm (200m) costs £33.80, postage to USA is £2.50 Airmail. There is no tax to pay for US customers.
I don't know why it calculates at only 33.80 because 2000 x .02 = 40. However, when checking deeper into their web site it does give better prices for bulk orders, so I'm guessing 200mtrs is bulk.
0.51mm x 0.51mm Sterling Silver Square Wire Half Hard Condtion
0.51mm x 0.51mm Sterling Silver Square Wire Half Hard Condtion. This is equivalent to US wire gauge 24. Exc VAT: £0.02 Inc VAT: £0.02
Price is per cm.

CanI just check mr Rogue...
2000cm or 20,000cm?
2000 is 20m... not 200! Sounds like a serious bargain if it is for the full distance, I'm struggling to find cheap sources this side of the pond! So I'd love to know if you can source it that cheaply!
Yours hopefully!
Sparkles.

20m sounds more realistic at that price

You are of course right. 2000cm is of course only 20m Duh Sometimes its the simple maths that lets me down. Apologies to all those that thought they were in for a good bargain
