Hello all............
Fossil here,I have been trying to find a good site to visit on rockhounding and fossils, hope this does the trick. I have been a rock and fossil nut for over 27 years now, mostly dino bones and fossils. Started in Montana(home state)......... Have many fossils in my collection and in dusted boxes ready for cleanup(ha ha). I have minerals, rocks and junk has my family calls it(ha ha)...... I have hunted in Montana,North Dakota and Oregon...Montana being the best spot so far! We are moving to Oregon(wifes home state)in two years,so will be doing alot of hounding out that way........ Looks like this site is nice-hope I like it here..........

Hi welcome to the board. I live next door in Estevan Saskatchewan. I would love to see some pictures of the stuff you have found. What part of ND are you in? Hopefully way up north by the border so I can convince you to join the rock club I'm starting in Estevan. Maybe come spring you can come for dig. If nothing else I'm sure you will like the board.

Hi Fossil, Welcome to the board. I don't do fossil hunting but I know several members on here do. It looks like you will be moving to an area that has a lot of pretty agates so maybe you will get into that some after the move. In the mean time, we would love to see some of the stuff you have found! I love to read about it and learn from all the folks here! Fran

You live down right close!! I'll PM you some info on the rock club I'm starting. Its free so even if you just come for a dig once in a while its not like it cost you anything. A couple other guys on here are members in the same situation (Bushmanbilly and Brent), except they both are a bit further away. Maybe you can take us for a dig by your place.

Welcome fossil!
Mel (sabre52) is another fossil hound; he recently posted some cycad photos in the specimen forum. He's very knowledgeable about rocks in general and is rarely stumped.
I have a few fossils that I've identified, and a few I haven't that I'll have to post before long. I mostly have Ordovician and Devonian sea life...kind of boring, but that's what I've had access to.

All depends on what the Border Control lets me bring across! I use to hunt shedded horn up in Manitoba and now I quit because of the paperwork and BS involved on bringing it across to the USA! No problems going up to hunt, its all problems coming down! Will check it out, sounds like a blast.............Thanks

Fossils across the boarder can definantly be a problem. By shedded horn do you mean fresh horns or petrified? Although I think both would be a problem one under heratige laws the other under wildlife. Rocks are easy though other than the strange looks the boarder guys give you (just went both ways with rock today). There is quite a bit of agate/jasper and other stuff around here and thats no problem to take across.
Anyhow I hope to see you there. If nothing else bring some pics of your great fossils. Other people have said they are bringing fossils so if nothing else you can check them out, have a beer and talk rocks. I'm not sure how many people will be there exactly (my fault for just saying show up on the posters) but it sounds like 5 minimum that I know of for sure and I have heard maybe 5 others who are thinking about it. Thats just from where I work who knows how many others will show.

Hey just thought of this. Have you ever found any Montana/Souris agates around your place? Brent and myself have been working on the idea that they may possibly be found anywhere between the red lines. Possibly further out. The red dots are places that we have found them. They seem to slowly change from Montanas to Souris type as you head North west. In Estevan the agates look like a Montana and a Souris got together and had a baby.

I know for a fact that map shows the hot spot of agates in Montana, expecially on the "Yellowstone" River area's..............
