I am absolutely stunned by the brilliance of the reds in your finds. I looked back at the stuff I found near Wendover last week and they look like pale pastels in comparison. I have GOT to come to Arizona some day to hunt! Congratulations, great stuff.

Looks like an awesome trip and a fine load of agate and jasper too. That Brenda stuff is some of the reddest of the reds. The Woodwards say their ranch is the only place for good red plume.......NOT!!!!!!!! You showed them up real good Brian....Mel

Woowowwowowwowowwwwowwww Beef! Those are fantastic! You should have warned me so I could cover the keyboard from drool. Well I shoulda known from the title of the posting. Those ones with the white are amazing and that plume is outa this world. It looks like poppy from the second picture. The whole tailgate looks like a droolfest to me. Those reds are wild. Sounds like a great tip too. Man I don't know what's better. Hanging out with friends under a desert sky at night or rocks like those. Luckily you don't have to pick! That is some boulder Ronda found too! WTG! Steve

Oh, those are great pictures of a great day, it was fantastic out there. Your rock shots are making me even more crazy to get the boxes I sent home. When I have somewhat recovered any energy, I'm planning to write a trip report too, but I'm lazy about not taking pictures. The soon-to-become-legendary boulder (47.5 lbs) is now on my deck. Here are the sordid details of its transport. On Southwest Airlines, you still get 2 checked luggages up to 50 lbs. each for free. I flew out with a duffel bag and a cooler filled with camping stuff and rock equipment. The boulder would fit into the cooler. So I shipped my camping stuff, dirty clothes, etc., back home via UPS to free up the cooler. In the meantime I picked up more rocks. This meant I had to take a third checked item and pay for it, which I used a big plastic bin that I'd planned to abandon at the end of the trip until I had stuff to carry home in it. So I got up way early this morning to make my flight, wore my Rock Club polo shirt and desert dusted shoes and checked in at their desk, saying I'd been out doing "some field work" and unfortunately fell victim to the USPS holiday on Monday. They couldn't have been more helpful to a pseudo-geologist and even assisted with moving rocks around to minimize the extra charge and helping to tape up the containers. (Of course they arrived having been searched by the TSA, so all that work by the Southwest people was kind of a waste of their time.) Everyone was impressed by the boulder. When somebody asked what I was studying I said "agates and jaspers." It's supposed to go way warmer tomorrow so hopefully I can hose off the boulder and take its picture.

Sweet! What an awesome day! If you people didn't post pictures of the areas you rock hunt in, I wouldn't believe they existed. To see such wide open spaces that you can visit freely, is just amazing. There is flat land in Fl. but someone owns all of it. You have to pay just to visit the beach. To be able to go out like you guys did and camp and play all day without worry, and to find such beatuifull rocks just laying around! Oh my gosh, I need to move west!!
Thanks for the pics Beef! I travel through each of these field trips. Love them!!

Hey Deb, 'member when I picked up your boulder and guesstimated 'almost 50lbs'? Purdy dang close! ;D Of course that was after you chipped off several pounds with the hammer LOL!
Glad you made it back home safe and sound, hope Larry did as well.
Thanks all for the comments, we could have come back from that trip without a single rock and still had a blast!
Of course coming back without a single rock.. that wouldn't have happened ;D

Thanks for a real pleasurable trip made very special by Brian and Christa....made the trip back "red-eye" to single digit temps with a foot of snow on the ground!! Just doesn't seem fair...!! But the time we had with you guys makes up for any discomfort I now endure...the rocks were just a special added bonus..and your pics and company certainly makes the trip a big check on my bucket list!! We owe you big time!!

Hey Larry! Glad you made it out this way, and I'm equally glad you made it back home safe and sound! Sorry to hear it's so chilly back there. If it makes you feel any better it rained a little last night and cooled down to the lower 70's today.. brrr! :cheesy:
It was a real pleasure. When I make it up that way I look forward to our Flint Ridge trip!!!
Oh yeah! ;D

WOW!!! Nice stuff you collected. I spent 12 years of my adult life in the Arizona desert and never saw any rocks like you found. Of course i wasn't a rockhound then...but i would have noticed something with that much color.
Love that plume that is exceptional.

That is some nice-looking material you found!!! I have wanted to go to Arizona for decades to hunt rock. This may be just the inspiration I needed. I understand there are plenty of rocks to go around. Thanks for posting!
