As much as I want a cab machine, we're such dirt poor slobs (I'm on disability and my wife may lose her job) that affording one at $500 to $2000 is out of the question. :serious:
However, about a month ago I remembered that I have a sander that I put in storage a couple of years ago. I recently got ambitious and dug it out.
This is it...
It saw alot of woodworking use before I sidelined that hobby. Its a really strong running machine and I got the idea to convert it into a "pseudo" cab machine.
Now, I've been doing a ton of research over the past couple of weeks and have ended up more confused than when I first hatched this hair-brained scheme. ;D
All I've been able to come up with is that it takes 5" SiC or diamond grinding discs, a 1" x 30" belt, it will need some sort of water supply, motor protection from said water supply, and that it should run around 1745 rpm. Thats as far as I get before my head and eyes start spinning from info overload.
Keep in mind that I have nothing more than what you see in the pics and no real idea what to get or where to start.
A couple of things I've been beating my brain over are, should I use a speed control to lower the rpms from 3450 to 1745? And should I use a sort of rubber pad behind the disc to cushion the cab?
So, I guess that I'm asking for all of you gurus to take me by the hand and give me your advice and suggestions to make this into a somewhat decent cab machine.
As I mentioned, lack of money is a real concern, but I am fairly good at DIY projects even though I have a limited supply of tools.
So, with all of that in mind, please let me know what I can do and where I should look to get this contraption a'cabbin' on a very limited budget. ;D
We could possibly afford some sort of unit to make cabs, new or used, as long as it fits into our pathetic bank account.
Sorry for the awful pics...blame it on our crappy camera....
Thanks in advance for wasting your time looking and suggesting. ;D
Rus *Banging head on rock pile and screaming, "I WANNA MAKE CABS!!!"
