I've been looking at this for 3 years and finally remembered to get some pics. I don't have any idea what it is - looks like a piece of petrified tree to me. A friend of mine said it was petrified cactus. I don't think it's pet. rock. What do you think? Front Back Sure looks like bark on the backside. llana

Yup, I believe it's a cactus. Is there a chipped place where you tell what's inside?

Nope ... seen that before ... it's a petrified furball from a sabretooth tiger.

Hmm. I'd guess some sort of flowstone ( calcium carbonate) deposit maybe flowing over tree roots or such. Sometimes get that sort of thing around limestone cave country....Mel

On the other hand, it's very possible it could be some sort of flowstone. ;D

It looks a lot like some stalactites I have seen in caves.

It is probably what Mel said, but it sounds much more cool to say it is petrified cactus! Amber

Curt and Amber, a friend of mine used to work for the lady whose porch this sits on. The lady told her it was pet. cactus - although it doesn't look like any kind of cactus we have around here. Of course, since she has traveled all over the place, it might not be from here. There are some holes all the way through it and it looks much the same as the outside. All those little twigs and the bark looking stuff on it make me think it very well could be some sort of flowstone. Nope ... seen that before ... it's a petrified furball from a sabretooth tiger. Or a petrified woolly mammal tooth in serious need of dental care! Whatever it is, it's interesting and kinda cool! llana
