Howdy folks, Well, still following the broken cycad float up the hill. Think the actual source is on the neighboring ranch as I think I see a big stump hunk over the fence. Anyway, todays hunt was pretty good and I got another full pack. Found a couple of other interesting goodies too. Here are some pics....Mel Took two pics for the whole pile. Got some good bark hunks showing the diamond pattern this time. Found the thing on the left which is very weird but pretty. Look like it is of organic origin but I don't have a clue from what, coral maybe. Anyway it's totally druzy and sparkles real nice. Piece on the right is a thin section of cycad bark, also druzy and showing nice big geometric patterns. Bottom of weird nodule: Nice light blue agate inside. An almost complete flint knife found on this mornings hunt:

So ... let's see some slabbed and cabbed! Hehehe...
That stump might be a good excuse to meet your neighbor ... a good "ice breaker" topic. If he's not a rockhound, who knows, maybe he'll let you hound on his property (?).

Holy cow, those are some terrific finds Mel! That new ranch of yours is really puttin out! Nice blue agate there, and the knife looks killer! Are you sure those things aren't petrified pineapples? :cheesy:

Man Mel, You've moved to a Fossil filled Jackpot there! Those Cycads are pretty amazing. If any of you happen to have any of Frank Daniles Petrified Wood books...there's a Cycad in there that came from the Henry Mountains in Utah. I was actually able to see it up close and meet the man who found it...Bill Branson. It's an amazing Huge Specimen...and something to behold. In fact, someone from the Smithsonian came and examined it and it actually has on one side, where a Dinosaur has actually taken a bite off of it. Verified and recorded by one of the top fossil guys at the Smithsonian. (can't remember his name) When I get back up that way...I'll take some pics of it and the Man who found it. He followed the float just like you are doing Mel. Don't give up...you're going to find the main trunk! Steve

Oh, these are wonderful! I think it is fantastic that you are finding these on your walks around your own place. Who could want more than that? Thanks for showing us Mel! I am keeping my fingers crossed that you find a big, whole one real soon! Fran

My heart is an open wound and Mel keeps pouring salt on it. ;D
Nice haul Mel! I like the druzies. Is the one on the left not a Cycad? Looks similar in the pic

Curt: The specimen on the left lacks the geometry of the cycads. Wish I would have had it to show the geologist at the gem show as you know how I hate mysteries *L*. I'm finding something else around where the cycad comes from too, sort of a limestone shot through with chalcedony circles and I'm wondering if it's some kind of root or underground plant parts replacement. I'm tumbling a pretty big piece and the center of one of the tubes? has small tubules in a bundle almost like some of the palm root I've collected. I sure wish I knew more about paleobotany and fossils in general .....Mel

Curt, I understand.. the finger from the left hand, but now the heart!?!?! Didn't you raise the price a bit too high? I was just preparing to offer to Mel a finger from my right hand (I just made that grooving device so I afford that now) but your new offer cannot be beaten! ;D
Amazing finds Mel, moving in such a great place is better than winning the lottery!
