Goodness people ....
If anyone told me in hindsight I would be chomping at the bit to get my first real batch of rocks and the waiting would make me crazy ....
I would have bought rocks months ago in anticipation. Even gravel at this point would make me happy.
My neighbor keeps giving me stuff from her bucket and I have no clue what to do with it. She has given me more stuff and this weekend I will probably take more pictures to find out what they are.
I (HOPEFULLY) will get my first order tomorrow or Saturday!!
Is this normal for newbies? If so .... newbies .... please let me know I am not the only one feeling like a duck out of water.

mynewhobby.... yes, I seem to be feeling the very same way as you.
I am an electrician and I have always picked up rocks on job sites that look neat to me. Well, my girlfriend ( of 10 years, Di ) asked me one day what I was going to do with all these rocks. I told her that I wasn't sure, but it would be neat to tumble some of them ( she had never even heard of a rock tumbler ). Well, come christmas day I open one of my gifts from Di and suprise to me, a rock tumbler. I had no idea, it was the perfect gift for me..... Ever since then I have been chomping at the bit to tumble more rocks, get more rocks, buy more tumblers, etc......
So, mynewhobby, I would say your feeling are normal..... ;D

I too am a noob and I have found myself bumping into people, doors, buildings, farm animals, because have spent the last two weeks walking with my head down looking for material. I guess you could say I have it bad as well.

Hi mynewhobby & Kevin. I'm a noobie also. So I dop my hat to you. O that should be doff my hat. And your dream bikerrandy makes complete sense! Pickled grasshoppers are a delicacy ! I'm really bummed. I got rock'n pneumonia & the boogie woogie flu & this is the first weekend --- in a long time--- I'm choosing not to grind rocks.

Well, read somewhere about being outside cutting rocks, covered in rocksnot, hair cemented down, all your gear on, and soakng wet, barely recognizable... and the UPS man walks up making a delivery looking at you like you are a crazed fool... (http://forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=gloss&action=display&thread=18696)
Well, it happened to me yesterday with the FedEx guy, and I had to chuckle to myself remembering that thread... Then, later that night... I dreamed about seeing a grasshopper eating pickles...

I was going to start a thread entitled: Do You Dream About Rocks ?
I’m sure it common experience too many. It can be a intense hobby while awake, and that’s bound to pervade ones dreams.
I dreamt that I was grinding a cabochon from some blue pixelated rock. Then the rock started disappearing increment by increment. I was doing what ever I could to prevent this rock from disappearing. Putting it in water, rubbing it with ZAM, hooking it up to battery cables
(I even threw it at some pickled grasshoppers) ..,. :nono:
Then POOF it was gone! It caused an international stir! I then started to try & reason why: this rock disappeared? Where it went? That was a mistake! It was a paradox and I woke in a cold rock snot sweat

Jo, its happened to me many times................just cabbin away rock chips and snot flying everywhere, including all over my glasses. There is a knock on the door and its the UPS or FED EX guy. Instead of grinning and saying hello like he normally does, he just looks.....at.....me with a bizarre expression.
I always get in trouble during hunting season. Hubby turns around and Im on my hands and knees digging rocks out of the trail. He walks back, shakes his head and says "are your eyes on the ground AGAIN?" I just shove the rocks in my pocket, tell him no, and walk off. By the time I get back to the truck I look pregnant with all the rocks in my pockets. LOL

Shannon, please tell me that you are not wearing anything but Orange "in-season" right? Some of those (ok, ok, OK us ) hunters have a difficult time telling proper targets.
