Well after much worry and doubt the cab machine arrived on Saturday. The man I got it from owns a company Amberwerx which deals in Amber, and he makes his own cab machine, with refurbished Genie Nova Wheels. He is 94 and although his site says he lives in CT, he is in CA. I sent a check the beginning of Dec, and was told it was on its way, then he was sick, I was just really hoping it would arrive, before he maybe expired or something!
Here is how the box came, over 100 postsage stamps!!!!!
Well here is the machine after using it,
He also sent me amber and some slabs.
The wheels
The pump system:
The motor and belt
So, the water trays are actually 8x10 acrylic photograph box frames, well they were smashed to shreds inside the box with this heavy machine, so in my haste to figure this thing out I used a cake pan. And grabbing the first hard stone I saw, red jasper, I proceeded to turn my area into a slasher room, it looked like I was slaughtering hogs in there. Now I know why Steve Holmes doesn't like dirty stones and sticks to those lagunas on his Genie!
My mom was visting and she thought I cut a hand off.
Well I had a hard stone to cinter the wheels and forgot, and proceeded to scratch up and spark the jasper. And I made a huge mess. I am thinking I probably should have waited for help But me of little patience had to proceed and try to figure it out on my own!!
So today I go to 3 stores until I find the frames to replace the broken ones and come home and try again.
Well I have several problems.
1. The trays vibrate, thus spilling lots of water.
2. The water bubbler thingy moves all around in the vibrating tray so I ended up holding the thing while trying to cab with the other hand, because of course the cab flew off the dop stick immediately, (a whole ongoing problem with me, seems I am the only cabber in America who can't dop properly.)
3. I seem to have a variable speed motor, caused by either too much pressure by me, or what I suspect is the belt rubbing against the plexiglass cover.
4. Clean up is a b**ch. Because I have to carry all the water stuff dripping through the finished basement and into the laundry room sink, and then Tony said I better not be dumping too much rock snot in my drain or I will have another problem, so I am dumping some in a bucket and trying to wash off the rest, which it is sort of bulky and I am worried about cracking the cover in the sink.
5. The wheels take some getting used to I suppose, it is a whole other set up then what I was used to at Tony's house.
I am thinking Tony's set up wasn't so bad, no clean up, the buckets of water disappeared, and I could make a mess since his floor is concrete, so the murky basement is still my favorite place.
I think the machine will be fine. Tony is coming tomorrow night to fine tune, and I am sure when the man of patience settles me down a bit, and makes things a little easier to operate for me, I will love it. I just had such grand dreams of sitting down at it for the first time and it was sort of a comdey/tragedy.
Here is the first cab I finished, an unknown agate from Catman, and in the end I did make a darn nice cab!
I am looking for practical solutions and how it compares to the Genie, etc.
Thanks,
Amber
