Nice photos! I did a lot of photography before I got into rocks, particularly macro. I wrote up a tutorial on it if you (or anyone else) would like it. I'll have to dig it up.
It was written for SLR users, but most of it will apply for compact camera owners.

Nice pictures. I like the un opened foxglove above the snail. It looks like some kind of pink bug, cool!

Great photos, Shannon! I, too, love macro photography. I take it that you use the auto-focus, just point and shoot? Those are all outdoor shots with natural lighting. Do you get similarly good results shooting indoors? Thanks for posting - they really made me smile! I love nature photography.

Nice! Im so glad someone else likes macro. Yes, I just use auto focus and point and shoot. I get pretty good results indoors with my light box but bright outdoor light is definitely best.

Shannon: How much is a camera like that? I have a macro thngy on mine, but I still do not seem to get great photos! And the light box thing? I know somewhere I saw a thread a while ago, but maybe now is a good time for an update. Taking these darn photos really ticks me off!

Here are a few tips for anyone interested: 1. Use a tripod. 2. Use a tripod. 3. Use a tripod.
Okay, a little more seriously, in no particular order after the first one: 1. Use a tripod. 2. Set your aperture to at least f8. If it's something very small and very close, go with f16-f22 to maximize depth of field. 3. Arrange your camera so that the back of the camera is parallel to the the most important plane of focus on your subject. 4. Watch out for distracting things in the background. 5. Control your light to make sure that your subject is well lit and things that are not your subject don't get as much light. On camera flash is not a very good light source for macro. You may need to use reflectors to bounce light onto your subject. 6. Use a cable release or the built-in timer to eliminate camera shake. 7. Check your white balance to make sure it matches the lighting. 8. Have fun and take lots of photos!
Hope this helps someone, Chuck
