Hello, Just wanted to say hi to everyone here and to thank all of you for all of the useful information that I've read & used from this board. I live in Jacksonville, Fl ,(not very many rocks worth tumbling), and have been tumbling rocks for a couple of months. I'm a Captain of a tugboat on the St Johns River where I find allot of cool stuff. My wife says if I bring home anymore drift wood or conquina she is going to start burning it in the fire pit out back. I find allot of fossils, chert and tons of different types of coral. I have family in the mountains of North Georgia where I find some very cool rocks for tumbling and also have found small amounts of gold & copper. I really enjoy tumbling rocks and showing my 3 year old son the process, he loves it. We are expecting a little girl in April 09. Very excited. Already planting cactus under her bedroom window. Anyway, just wanted to introduce my self to you guys. I will post some pics of some of my finds and tumbles soon. Thanks for all the good information. Peace - Casey

Hello there, Fellow Floridian!!!
I lived near Daytona Beach for 21 years but we moved over to the Tampa area in 2006. ( I'm a Northener by birth but my hubby and I had enough sense to leave all the snow well behind us years ago!!)
Rocks are definitely hard to come by here in this sand-filled state, but we sure do have some great fossils, don't we? You must have some very interesting finds. Have you ever explored the Peace River? Or gone fossil-hunting up in the Gainesville area? You might want to check out one of our newest sub-boards here at RTH - The Fossils/Artifacts area!
This is a great Forum for learning, and sharing, and having FUN! It's safe to say...we all have rocks at heart here!!
Welcome aboard!!!

I have found a few fossils around here in Jacksonville. Found a place up in Valdosta, Ga on the Withlochoochie River to find coral, some times a piece of agatized coral. Had a friend last summer found a real winner up there. Plan on checking it out again this spring when the water level is lower. We also have found arrow heads and flint around this area. Found a large chunk of Gniess rock a dredge pulled out of the bottom of the river a couple of months. Tons of Conquina, some with some small fossils. I find most of rocks in North Georgia. I've always picked up rocks since I was kid so I have a real mix of odd ball stones. Made a trip out to Oregon a couple of years ago, try to explain to the TSA at the airport why you have 20 pounds of rocks in your carry on luggage. I guess because I had 50 pound in checked luggage . Thanks for the info on Gainsville. I have a buddy there, I may go visit him soon and check it out. Casey

Hi There Casey and welcome to the board! I am sure looking forward to seeing some of what you find and it sounds like you have a great job! The cactus made me laugh...Your daughter will really be trying to find ways around it but not for many years. Fran

You are in the right place my friend. I'm also from Florida (Miami) but came up to Utah because I couldn't find find any rocks down there ;D
Anyhow...this is the right place to trade and barter for rocks...You will have no problem filling up your backyard with rocks from this forum.
Good luck,
Ozzy
