I have never seen a cab machine up close,How are the wheels or drums secured to the shaft?I'm curious because I would like to start cabbing and I prefer to build my own machines. Mike

Mike:
Somewhere on the shaft there will be a stop collar, either an intergral part of the shaft, or a seperate coller held on with set screw, the shaft ends are threaded. The wheels then are put on with spacers between, and a nut (remember you will have one end right threaded, and the other lefthand threaded) tightened to secure all the wheels, and spacers. Woody

Thanks Woody,I assumed the wheels were held on with a set screw.I've got everything but the shaft and wheels but I still need to decide whether to go with six or eight inch wheels. Mike

By lapidary, shot with Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL at 2008-08-04 Mudshark This unit is a 8" High-Land Park E-10 Cab Combo. I Lathe cut spacer`s and added a 3rd diamond wheel in the middle. I`m still using a Highland Park Congo black diamond blade. They last for ever...............

Nice unit,I like the" forever" part.I have a 10 inch Covington slab and trim saw and I'm On my third blade in less than a year.I'm not experienced enough to know how long they should last.I want to get going on the cab machine but I got a little sticker shock when I started pricing wheels! Thanks for the post,it should help inspire me to get my butt moving on this project. Mike
