Can anyone identify the matrix that the silver is in? I bought the rough a couple of years ago but just got around to cutting and wrapping it. Thanks for looking

Man, what an exceptional piece!! It is like a silver blizzard... a really pleasant silver storm. I like the heck out if this. Where did you find the rough? Tony

Could it be Pyrite? Purty whatever it is.

Thanks for the compliments but it is silver, not pyrite. It has a white coloured matrix which I am not sure what it is and that is the part I am trying to identify. I bought the rough at a rock and gem show a couple of years ago and I do believe it is from northern Ontario.

That is a great wrap and I love the stone. I love when a post makes me want to do research and that is what this did. I searched google and the white matrix may be quartz as I found a silver specimen in quartz matrix on google but I also found this www.cs.cmu.edu/~adg/adg-peimages.htmlif you scroll down 3/4 of the page you will find the silver specimen and it lists a silver mine in Canada where it may have come from. The silver is on white matrix like yours. the page states "possibly the McKinley-Darragh Mine), Cobalt, Timiskaming County, Ontario, Canada."

At first glance, I figured the matrix was quartz. After reading the research that sitnwrap did on it, I'm almost positive it's quartz. I've seen other silver specimens (as well as gold) in quartz. Beautiful wrap & stone - they really compliment each other!

Hello and thank you for the research. I tried researching it but couldn't find it if my life depended on it. I do believe you are right. I went into the link given above and the location does jiggle some kind of a memory. I was told but as usual, I promptly forget and of course I nevern make notes. That would be the smart thing to do.
Thanks so much for the help and the compliments. Both are appreciated.
Cheers, Helen

This is an amazing pendant! The stone is so special and your wrap goes perfect with it.
