Hello fellow rock enthusiasts! My husband and I are from Las Vegas, but spend our winters in Wickenburg. We are full time RV'rs and love it. We have 6 placer claims here and spend our days looking for gold and specimen rocks. I recently purchased some used tumblers and started my first batch on Jan 30th with quartz and red jasper from our claims. I am hoping that I get no complaints from the neighbors in the RV park! It is so hard to listen to the tumbler and not go out there and open it up! I have learned so much from all of you. I did not realize that you had to run the rough for so long! I plan to recharge this lot on Saturday, since so many of you have said that it is better to run it a couple of weeks rather than just the one week the books say. The tumblers I purchased are fairly old, but run really well, just had to get new seals. I got those at the Quartzite show. The largest one is a 15 lb and can hold a bunch of rocks! Don't know the brand but I think it is from the 80's. It has a Westinghouse motor. I did get an older Thumler, with a 8 lb barrel. The last one has two different size barrels, one is a 3 lb and the other is 8lb. I plan to designate each for the different grits. Can't wait to share some pics when they get done. I am looking forward to getting to know you all and continue to learn .

Thank you for the welcome! Wickenburg is a great place, we love it in the winter! Summer is a bit too hot! If you ever get the chance to RV full time or even part time, do it. Best decision we ever made. Cheryl

Welcome to the RTH. I've collected out there in Wickenburg. Found some really nice fluorescent minerals. The Hogan Claim, home of the Purple Passion Mine is around there too. Very nice stuff if you like fluorescent rocks.

Welcome to the board! There are several of us members in your general area. Although I will tell you the word 'claims' kind of scares me. I am a very friendly person so just think of me as a 70's era Hippy Rockhound.........believe in freedom for all and rocks for all! lol

Thank you all for the very nice welcomes. As some of you know, we are socked in with a winter storm! It has rained for several days and made for a difficult time rock hounding, gold prospecting or even checking the mail! I will have to check out the Hogan Mine and Burro Creek when it dries out a bit. I have been reading the other threads all over RTH and have learned so much. Can't wait to learn more! Thanks again Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, My husband and I are only 15 minutes from you in Wickenburg. Are you part of the Roadrunners gold panning clan or do you pan solo? You couldn't be in a better area for that! We are just off of US 60, 15 minutes south east of Wickenburg. If you need info on some good collecting areas for tumbling materials or want to talk shop, my hubby used to mine gold, (contract gold mining), he knows some good areas and can be easily bribed with chocolate brownies into spilling his guts.
Welcome to the RTH, its a real pleasant experience and very addictive.
