Just got this one cleaned and the bottom cut off. Not a lot of color, but a cool looking piece none the less. Curt Hmmmm, guess I got a little close, huh? :serious:

Boy that's one craggy looking piece of wood. My wife would snap one like that up for her garden before I could say a howdy do...Mel

Course it's hard to tell really how tall it is by the pic, but, how do you square off the end on a piece that is to long to go in your saw?

This one is 9 inches tall and weighs 3 1/2 pounds. That is about the size I like for indoor display, although I do have some larger ones. The ones that are 2 ft and larger, I usually leave as they are and keep them outside. I have an 18 inch saw plus a 14 inch chop saw, so I can cut just about any length I can pick up as long as it's not bigger around than the chop saw will handle.
I haven't cut one any longer than a foot or so because I think they look nicer as a log any longer than that.

That is amazing, it looks like petrified driftwood.

Curt, that is a nice looking piece of wood. Is it just me or is it opalized on one side? Donna

Beautiful shape. Can almost call it gnarly. How does the grain look on your cut end? Fran

Donna No opal, just the way the camera caught the light. Fran The grain is awful, just plain old. That's one of my criteria for being a specimen. Curt

I like it!!! That wood has seen some chit in its time. Its not all pretty and sparkly like some that you have shown Curt, but its just plain cool.

I think the word that comes to mind for me is "texture." It has some kick-a** textures on it.

That is a nice piece of wood. It reminds me of driftwood from the ocean or a river.

Looks like something chewed on it before it was covered up for fossilization.
