I have some fake leather that has a tough cloth backing on it. I made pads for a 6 inch plate and used diamond paste on the cloth side. It works very well.
Then I got the bright idea of saving $3.50 each for uncharged belts for my expando drum. I cut the width and length leaving about an inch over for gluing. Then I epoxyed it together with the cloth on the outside. After a 24 hour wait, I put the belt on the drum and it worked! So I charged the belt with diamond paste and started sanding a cab. After about 5 minutes the belt came apart and the nail I was using for a dop stick durn near removed my little finger.
Don't try this at home.

Wow Curt you got lucky. I detached the tendon on my little finger. It seems so unimportant but try to make a fist without your little finger and see.

Not that I'm recommending you retry, but instead of overlapping and glueing, meet them at the edge and attach something behind it instead. that's how my resin belts were made...

Thanks Ronda, but I think I'm gonna stick with commercial belts. ;D
