First off ... I had a great time!
I never thought that walking around for hours looking down at the ground could be any fun! HA!!
The pictures that I took of the area came out over exposed (still learning this dam camera).
Now .... I took pictures of my bucket and stones ... but need to re shoot tomorrow as they are really not that good.
Let's see ... when we got there ... there a couple of men digging like crazy. They had really big shovels.
Apparently they were looking for the black agate and opal. They had found evidence of these veins from previous trips.
So ... I just walked around and up and down the roads looking for the red jasper ... which I apparently found some good pieces.
I also found some really cool rocks with rough surface with shiny mica deposits on the outside.
I still have to research what I did bring home as I do not know the names or mohs yet.
Oh ya .... I spent the greater portion of the day picking up really cool looking rocks that were very dark brown and I also kept tossing them aside.
It was not until we were about ready to leave that I found out that the black agate is the dark brown rock. Go Figure!
As always ... thanks ... boy am I tired ...
Oh and the whole area was in full bloom with little yellow flowers, purple flowers, blue flowers, and some really neat green flowers.

That sounds like you had a blast. Did you keep any of the brown rocks? Too bad the pics were over exposed and maybe some aren't so bad that you can sill post them. Looking forward to you pics and the cool rocks you found.

As for the brown ones .... I did not keep any ... will double ceck tomorrow when I look to reshoot the bucket. I did not think (I don't know) that they were anything. It'll teach me to ask before I ASSume.
I do have some pretty nice chunks pieces of red jasper. I am pretty sure ...
There was a lot of different and very cool green stuff ..
When I post pics ... if anyone wants any of it ... I will send it off toot sweet.
I have more rocks here ... I am up to my neck in rocks ... so I will give away if anyone wants it ...
Coming from a beginner I doubt you guys would want what I found. But it is yours if you want it. I will have the pictures to show I got it. The pics can be learning tools for me.
Again thanks

Lori: The Rainbow Rhyolite is hard, and colourful, and will take a good polish. If you go all the way over the hill to the other (wrong) side, there is a lot of the nice Rhyolite, but damned little good material. That is where the damned book says to look. I am surprised that one of the more experienced club members did not sort of take you under arm and give you some pointers on what to be looking for. Oh, and do not be bashful about asking what the material to be found somewhere looks like if you see other rockhounds. Most of us are pretty friendly, and willing to help new comers. Woody
