Could be from around Gabbs, Nevada too. Lots of opalized wood there that looks real similar....Mel

I'd say that's almost definately Wiggins Fork opalized wood from here in Wyoming...I have quite a bit of that stuff.... That's an excellent piece, by the way! Here's a few pieces of mine to compare...

Amazing, the wooden grain is perfect. And the piece looks pretty solid, which is also great for the opalised wood.

I recently got a piece from Catmandewe that looks very close to your piece. I started slabbing it yesterday and found that it doesn't take much to get it to break apart. I then cut a very thick slab (just under 1/2") and started to cab it. Once again it started breaking. Hopefully I will be able to salvage the cab after repairing it with epoxy. If I can get it to the finish point it should be beauty.
