This is Spiderman jasper from the Oregon/Idaho boarder. This is a hard rock to polish and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. They went for 3 weeks in 60/90 grit, (recharging every 7 days) 1 week in 120/220 grit, 1 week in 400 grit and 1 week in Titanium oxide polish. But then disaster struck! Apparently the Titanium oxide was too abrasive and wouldn't bring the rocks to a high polish, but rather leave them with dull, pitted surfaces. I then moved them back into 400 grit for a week and then into Tin oxide polish for a week. The tin oxide seemed to have done the trick, but due the nature of this rock, they still didn't come out as good as I had hoped.

Man, those are beautiful! You must have a very very high bar for yourself! I think what is even more amazing is that when something does not seem to be going right, you have enough experience to make adjustments, corrections and carry on. Excellent!! I think it is a sterling job! I am impressed!

Thanks. I was just disappointed because I paid $8.00 a lb and I thought they would turn out better. I think I could have gotten better results with black/mahogany obsidian. It looks almost the same. Thanks again for you compliements!

Beautiful!!! Here I am with my first load on Phase 1, day 10. The key word here is PATIENCE I think. Have another expensive hobby (in $ and time) so this tumbling hobby will just have to stay small scale and teach me that horrid "P" word.

Another job well done James! Beautiful! Boy, if you showed me that rock and asked me to ID it, and gave it's location, and how hard it is to get a polish on it. I would call it Mahogany obsidian and not have any doubts in my mind. Maybe spiderman jasper is just a nick name for that spidery version of Mahogany obsidian? Such as when Mohogany has bands of translucient black it is called 'midnight lace' or when it is mostly orange it gets tagged 'pumkin' obsidian? Who knows? It is pretty and you did it justice James. Talk to you later, Don
