Greetings All, I seem to remember a thread not too long ago where someone was asking for help identifying some rock and it turned out to be rhyolite. I didn't think much of it at the time but I came across this www.greatrough.com/rough_liesegang_stone_rhyolite.shtmland thought I'd post it. Rhyolite, according to my "handbook of rocks, minerals and gems" by W. Schumann, is a silica-rich volcanic rock that is 80-100% light-colored minerals (quartz 20 to 60%, feldspars 40 to 80%) and 0 to 20% dark-colored minerals. The picture of the liesegang stone rhyolite in the above link is very different from the two pictures in the "handbook", and greatrough.com is selling it for $10.00 per pound. Pretty good for a rock that's not even considered to be semiprecious. So whoever it was that had found some, tumble away ;D WilliamC

Yeah, that's me, that's me. I just went out a collected a bucketful in an area with a lot of Calcite veins. One of the members here wanted to tumble some. I have been running some in 60/90 for about 10 days and it seems to be really hard stuff. I find that the broken pieces are more interesting since the guy at the rock shop says they usually cab the rocks rather than tumble them. I'll check out the link you left and perhaps I will learn more. Thanks

Liesegang Stone Rhyolite seems to be different type of Rhyolite then what I am finding. I'd attach a picture if I could figure out how.

Just email me your address and I'll send some your way. I think I sent you some pictures. I went to the link that William put up and I don't think the Rhyolite I have is the same, but I can definately see how the formation is similar. I'd rather get some to you and have your opinion, before we do any wheelin dealin.
