Since I have finished my first batch, I had been thinking about what to do with all of these great little rocks.
Yes ... I put them on rock table ... but kept thinking they had a better purpose.
A couple of weeks ago, my neighbors daughter (I think she may be 9 or 10) found me on Bonnies porch whacking the crap out of some rocks that I still cannot break and ran (literally) over to the porch to see what I was doing.
Her little eyes just popped to about the size of dinner plates!
She apparently loves rocks. So as I whacking away on some other and somewhat breakable rocks and getting some small, but doable rocks, I gave them to her and tried to tell her what I knew about it and also what I did not know about any of them.
She is in love with the rocks.
So ... 2 evenings ago, I was sitting on Bonnies porch yacking away when the little one came over to show me her report card. I have no idea why she did this.
She had 3 A's and 2 B's.
The lightbulb went on.
So I got the bowl out and a towel ... poured the stones out and told her she could pick 5.
I don't think I have ever seen a kid smile that wide. She grabbed them and ran.
Amazing what a few small rocks can do.
As Always ...

Julie, That's great and a touching story. You made a big difference in her life, and who knows, another rocknut may have been born! Thanks to you, of course.
I walk Angie in the neighborhood and there's a new street with new houses. Well, there are all school age kids living there and Angie LOVES kids. They have watched Angie grow up from the puppy I carried to a grown dog. When the kids see us coming, they come running and ask for treats to make her do tricks. I call that street "Angie's Fan Club". LOL. Well, I've taken polished rocks with me on a couple of walks and handed them out to the delight of the kids. Then I show them the Citrine that is all over the neighborhood and explain about the local rocks.
One day I took some geodes and gave one to each family. I was really surprised that nobody knew what they were called. Even the parents. But still, they delighted in them.
I know I've read of someone (can't remember who) that tosses some polished rocks into school yards for the kids to find and to spark a love of rock beauty.
WTG Julie! You've done good, Girl!

Very Cool Naturenut ...
I have heard about people tossing semi polished rocks .... ones that they probably would not work with further in parks and other places where people would or could spot them easily. Anything that could spark interest or even just a fleeting fascination.
As always ....

Julie: Kids love tumbled stones!!!! We did a craft show and Tony had a bowl of tumbled rocks, well we sold $100 worth of cabs, and all the free tumbles were gone!!!!! The kids took so long picking out the stone they liked best! That was an awesome thing to do and made her day!! Kids love their little treasures!!! My son has so many little bits of stuff squirrelled away and if I try to move them or put them away he notices right away! And I bet you felt even better after giving them away!!!

Great job there Julie! That's definately some good karma there! Jo, sounds like the neighbors should love you too! Amber, isn't it funny how long you can look at just one rock! Sometimes the simplest things keep kids busy for the longest time. I love the idea of tossing stones in the park or school yard! I'd never have thought of that. It would be cool to do in the winter so they find them after the snow melts!

I bet she is going to be showing you her report card again. That is a wonderful thing you did.
