Yup, first time since I got 'er over a year ago Oh man what a chore. I'm going to have to put together one of the slab saw suckers I've seen posted here for next time lol. I did set up a filter system with two buckets, the bottom one had a lid that I cut out the inside of so the top one would sit down inside it nice and snug. I then drilled a bunch of holes in the bottom of the top bucket, lined it with two grocery bags and loaded it with goo lol.
It's working great! here's what it looks like
So I finished this Saturday afternoon, and changed out a damaged pulley on the front left of the saw (it's an 18" HP). New oil, a new rock and she was running like a champ! Here's what I was slabbing, some sorta agate of some sort. If anyone recognizes this stuff I'd sure dig an ID
So Sunday morning rolls around. I got up early and went out to finish slabbing this rock. Mind you, I don't have an on/off switch for the saw. It's plug it in, wait, listen, time it out and unplug when it's done. I got it set, looked at the time and went to do something else figuring I had about 15-20 minutes before I had to come back and check on it. About an hour and a half later I had one of those OH SHIT moments and raced back out to the garage. It was still running but I could hardly see it for the smoke. Let it cool off and plugged it back in but nothing. She was fried.
The motor was an ancient heavy 1/2 hp motor.
The only thing I had to switch it out with is a 1/3 hp Westinghouse motor.
I'm thinking it's prolly not gonna work but I gotta try. Well, so far so good! The first thing I tried was a large chunk of Obsidian I found with the kids last weekend. I kept waiting for it to bog down, but she zipped right thru it. My blade was already a bit dished, the agate that sat and spun against it for over an hour didn't seem to make it any worse. Here's some of the obsidian slabs
I guess the next big agate will be the real test, but I remain cautiously optimistic
Thanks for your time!
