Long Story Short ....
I owed the IRS for about ... cannot remember how much (I won't go into the stumuls issue) for 2007.
I got done paying them off and had a balance of $8.22 and then I noticed an increase of (exactly) ($105.00) to the balance (in the September 2008 statement). I immediately sent off letters disputing the difference.
This was in December and since then I have gotten two letters stating they needed more time to "research" my question.
TODAY!! .... I get this letter stating (and I quote) ...
"The "random increase" of $105.00 you are questioning is the user fee for establishing and maintaining your installment agreement"
I have had this agreement since March 2008.
What is your take on this?
I am so pissed right now .... I cannot see straight!
As always Julie

You were probably charged for the setup, plus processing for each payment. If they'd tagged the fees on as they accrued, you would have probably been charged interest on them until they were paid, so this probably worked in your favor ... though I'm sure it doesn't seem like much of a favor to you at this point.

mynewhobby ---actually the answer is simple ?? -- ;D --- you got this started under the "Bush" cheaper era, but, now that "Obama" has taken over, the price of "EVERYTHING" is up a bit --I heard the other day that the "energy" package (electric, heating gas , etc.) will cost every household @ $3100 more this year --- just the start of things to come !--- wait until next January and see where everythig is at!- you won't mind this $105 at all !!

Don't even get me started on the IRS.... Being self employed is the greatest thing ever, well at least for the government. I spend the time digging rock, cutting, polishing, selling etc... however uncle sam gets the largest cut of my hard work!
I owed taxes from 2007 and I called to change my due date on the installment agreement and they charged me $45.00!
Things were a bit slower this year in the rock shop so I went to work for a good friend of mine to help him out... Man alive what a difference actually paying taxes from my paychecks. For the first time in 11 years of being in business I actually got money back!
I think the added charge on your taxes is just a fee to thank you for being an american citizen... Maybe we'll call it the "land of the free charge" LOL I wonder how many idiots in the white house right now are calculating how to tax the air we breathe?
At anyrate sorry for your hassle, but trust me I know exactly how you feel. As said I've paid my self employment taxes for the past 11 years!
