Howdy folks, Well, after Harley's magnificent works of knappery, I'm almost ashamed to show my feeble attempts but heck, I love to torture you folks with my pics anyway so here are my pathetic specimens. I figure since I bashed my knee a million times with the big copper bopper ( a well and justly named tool!), cut myself, stabbed myself, (thank God for chainsaw chaps so I were only bruised) and wasted untold amounts of beautiful flint ( some went into the tumbler it was so pretty) I should at least post one pic. I've got to say I can get them sharp edged and pointy, just not very small yet. These are all spear or dart sized points, the smallest being maybe 1 1/2" long. Harley is right, the two big ones of black flint caused me to outright invent new swear words or maybe remember long strings of the common swear words I heard in the army. Out of about 8 attempts, I only managed the two points in the pic. Anyway, typing with band aids on sucks so here's the pic......Mel

Mel,
Those are looking a lot better than the first attempts I made a year ago. The first points I turned out were made from heat treated rock and it works like candy compared with the raw material in your back yard. At the risk of making your head swell up, they look a whole lot better than about 80 % of the artifacts I have picked up in the past and have proudly displayed in my collection. Some of the points I have found hunting over on the Mississippi were so crudely made that you had to look twice to make sure of what you found and several times I even asked my friend with me for a second opinion. It looks like your getting a handle on the percussion flaking just don't quit ! After a couple day layoff the feeling will return in the top of your thigh and it will be harder to concentrate thru the new pain ! Just kidding ! The Durst stemmed / Adena point at 8 o'clock is a dead ringer for 5 or 6 that I have in my collection.
Keep on chippin,
Harley

Those look great Mel. I tried some harder stuff the other day, wee little flakes followed by a sickening snap. Back to the obsidian for me for a while. Your way inhead of me.
