Last month I purchased FRBs from board members StonesThatRock, DesertDweller (MyBlueRocks), Michael Johns (2), JerryB, plus an FRB from doughboy265 on ebay. My daughter and I took an afternoon and tried to sort it out by type and/or color. Here's what ~125 pounds of rock looks like, as modeled by my daughter Karsen... Not pictured is the 21+ pounds of snowflake obsidian I won when my low ball $9.95 bid stood for 3 days until the auction closed. I've created about a half a peanut butter jar of slabettes with the workforce. I tried working some of them on my cab machine but I have to take a few days off until my fingers heal or I learn how to dop. I have taken the end of my fingernails off on most of my favorite fingers. Plus as I'm working on one wheel I keep knicking my knuckles on the wheel next to it. It actually hurts to type right now.

10 Thumbs, are you ready to change your name to 6 thumbs! LOL, I am the Queen of Dopping Disaster, but now I have it, super glue, accelerator spray and really thick dowels! Now I am not losing cabs, or fingers only don't use oak dowels or you can't get them off, hahaha!! I tried everything, and this method is working the best, I wore my nails and knuckles down to the bone too!!
Cute pic of your daughter!

Someone mentioned once to get those waterproof bandaids and put them on your fingertips that you scuff most often. I have noticed that if I am planning on cutting or grinding a lot, the bandaids will really save me from being really sore and scuffed up. They don't stay on the whole time but will for most of it so it does help. Your daughter is a doll and looks like she really enjoys helping with the rocks! Kids know the true treasures! Fran

That's alot of great stuff, time for a ten inch saw! Great pic of your girl ;D She looks about the same age as mine, 7? You're right! She just turned 7 last month. You have a keen eye for rocks, wraps, hot rods, motor cycles, and guessing ages. I wish I had a 10" saw. It takes me a long time to get through some of these rocks and I end up with blade marks on the face of the slab as I'm rotating the rocks to make up for the fact that they are more than 1.25" thick. I am the Queen of Dopping Disaster, but now I have it, super glue, accelerator spray and really thick dowels! I'll have to try that. I have plenty of CV glue and accelerator thanks to the cub scouts (model rockets, pinewood derby cars, etc). Someone mentioned once to get those waterproof bandaids and put them on your fingertips that you scuff most often. I have noticed that if I am planning on cutting or grinding a lot, the bandaids will really save me from being really sore and scuffed up. You'd think a guy who uses a box of waterproof bandaids as his avatar would have figured this out for himself... but nope.

You've got a lot of cutting ahead of you. I only use dop sticks on tiny cabs or when I use cerium. After a 100 or so you figure out how to keep your fingers safe. ;D

Say, that's a nice start! Can't wait to see what April's acquisitions look like ;D I'm going to really try not to buy anything for a while. I am sorely tempted by the weird and wonderful flavors of obsidian on Jason Hinkle's web site. www.oregonthundereggs.com/slabs.htmlI love obsidian. I want every flavor... eventually.

I have a 7-yr-old daughter, too! But she's jealous of my rocks.
You're gonna be busy with those rocks...
