I've decided to try my hand at wire wrapping and have a couple of questions for the seasoned wrappers on here. The first thing I tried was the groove wrapping - I love the simplicity of the look and it seems (theoretically) somewhat easier. Theoretically.
I tried a couple of groove wraps using zebra wire that I picked up at The Rock Shed when I ordered some grit. My first question - is getting a smoother curve or bend easier with "real" wire? The zebra wire is color coated copper wire. I don't know if it would be considered half hard, dead soft, or something else. It is hard to smooth back out once it's been bent at all. Was just curious if that was different with dead soft silver or argentinium wire.
My second question, I understand that argentinium is a little more tarnish resistant. Is there any other difference as far as working it goes? Does anyone use it/recommend it?
One more for now - using the zebra wire and doing a groove wrap, I found that I was having a hard time keeping the wires at the top very tight as I began to wrap for the bail - is there a secret to this or will this be slightly easier with better quality wire? I'm thinking it's just the learning curve and is something I just need to practice but thought I'd make sure I wasn't missing something.
Think that's it for now! Randy - thanks so much for the tutorial - I'll be trying one of your wraps next! I can tell you this - each time I've touched that spool of zebra wire - I've gained more and more respect for the wraps you do! And I already had a lot of respect before I even started with this!
Back to work while I daydream of being at home playing!
