Last Wednesday after I got home from work I noticed something scurrying about in the kitchen sink. I don't mind finding these guys under rocks I pick up out in the desert, but I'm not too fond of finding them in my kitchen. I guess even though I'm in the city, the city's out in the desert and there's no getting away from them. Anyway next day at work I saw the building maintenance guy out front and he motioned me over to see something 'wild'. I guess there was a hive across the lot in a palm tree, and the pest control guys came out and knocked it down. The queen bee made a dash for some guy's bike (maybe because of the color?) and she was followed closely by thousands of her biggest fans. I took these pics with the camera at work. The zoom kinda sucks, but I didn't want to get _too_ close, especially since I was still shaking off the heebie-jeebies from finding the scorp in my sink. Things that sting.. they're all around!

We had a convertible I wasn't driving very often, well one day I decided to take the convertible and the A/C didn't work, well it was like 100 degrees, hot and humid and I was 8 months pregnant, so I pop the top, and see something on the outside mirror, a swarm of wasps crawling out of the mirror!!!! Well I am a screamer, I damn near crashed the car, so I put the top up and I am sweating to death and I drive to the car wash, and I am screaming at the guy that there is a bee hive or something, so I go through the car wash, and the damn bees are still there, so now I am soaked, my throat is hoarse from screaming, so I see an Erhlich bug extermintator truck, and I flag him down, by basically driving like an idiot until he pulled over, and I got him to spray the mirror and a big wasp nest came out, he was my hero!
You had to ask, huh Beef? LOL!!!

Ok, Amber that reply had me ROTFLMAO...good thing I can find the keys with out seeing...my eyes are wet from the above.
We are off the Saddle Mountain this coming week for a few days. Last year whilst there, I saw a mudflap lying on the ground, and told my dear wife that would be a good place for a scorpion to hide, so lifting it up, sure enough there was one under it. That just made my wifes day. Yes, we have those wee beasties here in Washington! Only half the state is wet. Woody

There's nothing quite like the jolt of adrenaline you get when you find a scorpion in your house. My first encounter when I was in New Mexico was the one that was crawling across the back of the couch...right next to my head!

Lucky! Scorpions cost at least $15 up here in Michigan. You get them for free.

I prefer that the critters stay outside, too. We have enough trouble with mice moving in when the weather gets cold and spiders all the time. I can't imagine scorps! Amber, with your previous history I'm sure you could have come up with a more creative way to get the attention of the exterminator! Chuck

*L* We get scorpions in the house here fairly often. Rule number one is don't go barefoot and shake out your shoes before ya put them on. These are striped bark scorpions which are moderately toxic. The south Arizona ones are, I believe, an even more toxic species. You can hunt them with your black light though as they glow yellow green in the UV light....Mel

LOL here we have scorpions, vinegaroons, black widows, wolf spiders, sun spiders, tarantulas, massive centipedes ... all sortsa nasty little critters. On a similar note ... Coyotes are all over the place here, so most folks keep their kitty-cats and small dogs indoors. Did I ever mention that the area near The Blue Mule is major Mountain Lion turf? Yup. We even get the occasional bold one wandering into town and causing some havoc. There's alledgedly lotsa snakes here, too, but I've never seen one, neither "in town" or out in my desert expeditions.
Do I take heed, notice, or special precautions for any of 'em ... nope. It all just comes with the territory.
I love the wild burros ... I enjoy having them around when I'm way out in the desert. Hehehe even when they wake me up when I'm sleeping in the truck. I don't even mind scraping their poop off the rocks LOL.

I am a chicken crap when it comes to creppie crawlies too! I'd hate to be the guy that has to ride the bike home after work. That would really be a bummer. Amber....if you have the chance to go out with jamie...just wait. I was with her when I saw my 1st tarantula...YIKES! I wanted to go back right then!!! Steve

Got a 10 year old grand son I could BORROW to you. Give him a Blacklight , a gal. glass jar and a long pair of forceps and he would entertain himself ALL night !
Several years ago I pulled a 52 inch timber Rattler from under the front porch of our old fishin shack on the Miss. River. The kid can't go in and out of the front door without gettin down on his knees and lookin for another one. He's small but has a full size sense of adventure !

Wow... a scoprian in the sink... sure would startle me !!! The worst we get around here is the occasional wolf spider ( they can get big though ), black widow ( small, not scary ), and brown recluse spider ( I have a friend who lost half his foot to one ). Amber... the same thing happened to me ... car I didn't drive much, wasp nest in the mirror.... and under the gas cap door, I took off running at the gas station when I opened it, " Aaaahhhh, wasps!!!!! " ;D.

Here is one that does not sting! We saw this one on our November trip to California whilst at Pebble Terrace. I put my hand down to let it climb on, but my dear wife nearly had a heart attack thinking it would bite me.....so no scale to judge size, but it was about four inches across. Tarantula
