As reported by a couple of folks, I too have had the problem with the lap plate sliding down and starting to chew away the plastic under it. So far, it has only happened when I was using the felt pad. More vibration at that stage, I think. Any way, I think I have come up with at least a partially helpful solution. I used a nylon washer, a rubber grommet, and some waterproof red grease. Check out the pictures. Also, for something extra, here is my solution for using it indoors. Hopefully the grommet and washer will at least help minimize damage when the lap plate slips. Mike

Good ideas! I have the same machine and will be setting up an arrangment like you did. Something else I've started doing is wearing a dollar store rain poncho which channels the spray down into my lap (instead of all ocer my clothes) where I have an old towel to soak up the moisture. On occasion I have worn a shower cap too so my hair doesn't get all crusty. Oh, and I hang a dollar store plastic tablecloth behind me to catch the splatters. Clean up is easy. Take the plastic tablecloth down, ball it and the rain gear up and wash the towel for next time.

ok i did not start with this ,but i do have the Ameritool flat lap .. I dont get all this water splattering all over ... are you running it at top speed ? I never run mine much over half and also only have the water dripping at about 1 drop per 3 seconds ... maybe try sloooooowing down and using a bit less water or moving your setup into the shower lol Hope this helps lol good luck Wolf

If your plate slips down no matter how well you tighten it, buy some new allen set screws for a dime each. Allen set screws have a special end designed to grip your shaft and are basically shot after several tightenings. The same holds true for for belt pulleys that won't stay tight. Steve

Excellent point, Steve! That has been on my mind also, to get some extra set screws. And a better quality allen wrench.
