OK, so this isn't exactly about making or modifying equipment! But here we go - has anyone ever used their tumbler for something like coconut shell? I make jewelry and have a yard full of coconuts that I use for jewelry. I am looking for a way to throw the pieces of shell into the tumbler to smooth and polish the shells. I tried using grit and water like I do with rocks and it worked, I just wasn't too happy with the wet results. Want to try it dry!! Anybody got any suggestions?!

Dry should work, but it may take a while in a rotary. Vibes are frequently run dry for metal parts, shell casings, jewelry, etc. (but not for rock). You'd have to find a good tumbling medium. Maybe ceramics?

You could start with clean, sharp sand.
