Hey, that looks like it should take a polish. From what I've seen, the color stays truer the thicker the slab is. I've found what looks like some nice blue agate locally that turns out to be merely greyish when cut into slabs. Oftentimes the skin or rind will disguise the true color by giving the exposed agate a dark background.

Tony, I think it was worth it! ;D
I've also noticed that the color seems to 'bleach out' when it is exposed to sunlight for what I'm assuming is a long period of time. If I make cabs out of this will they do that too?

Amethyst will gradually lighten over time when exposed to sunlight, so it stands to reason that this could happen with other colorings in quartz as well.

It looks good to me!
88: I've noticed that color change, too. In even thinner sections it goes to almost clear.

Hmmm....is there anything that will keep this from happening? I'm goign to post some more photos of some of the other stuff I found last weekend when I get a chance. I've found one that has the coolest stripes on it! ;D Talk to you later. Rebecca

"is there anything that will keep this from happening?"
For a specimen, display it where it's never in direct sunlight and encase it in UV-coated glass. This will minimize the gradual loss of color, but won't stop it 100%.
For jewelry, store it in a small box (totally dark), and try to only wear it at night.

I certainly like it. Since we spent so much time just getting the overburden off of the seam we didn't get a lot of good stuff last weekend but now we know it's there..... ;D
