Last Saturday I found this at the Pow Wow. It is Happy Camp "Jade" (Idocrase). Material of this quality is very rare to find nowadays. It was priced at only $12 and it was the only slab of it that the dealer had. If you look closely under my cat's butt you'll see part of it. She was guarding it. Here is a closeup of the slab. Bob

Rich, I recall seeing a few slabs of poor quality Happy Camp Jade; however, I wasn't at the show on Friday or Sunday though I thought I scanned most all of the dealer's stuff. I was more focused on Agates and Jaspers. I did see some really small pieces of the jade but they also were of poor quality. Bob

Ah, you had me wondering what the hell was going on, calling that stuff jade, but then again, for those familiar with the mineral vesuvianite, the proper name for idocrase... that's some pretty damn weird stuff right there. Ever been properly analyzed and written up? Intriguing material that I'd love to cut for sure.

That is a very pretty slab! I don't think I would have known that it was anything special. I guess I need to study up more! Fran

Very nice hard to find slab. Can't wait to see the cabs you cut from it.
