hey all... Quick Question for any who wish to answer.. I am now running a load through the polish stage and have been using a product called ray brite, this pollish works well on agates and harder quartz mixtures but not on everything in the load. My loads are usually a mix of beach rock I pick up by the bucket full.... after 8 days some polished to a wet shine, others hazzy so I cleaned the load and added a polish from a tumblers pre packaged grit pack and whu-la after 1 day the others have started to take on the wet shine.... Anyone out there know what Kind of polish Tumblers are using in there 4 stage grit packs HURK

I'm glad you asked this and I hope someone answers. This is one of the dumb-seeming questions I have had also. I've bought 2 tumblers that came with sets of 4 grits and they are always proprietary labels with no information about the composition of the product, I don't know what I am polishing with and I can only assume that in a starter kit it must be el cheapo, aluminum, but I don't know how to know for sure. Whatever it is, it did a beautiful job on my first couple batches of assorted stones, mostly quartz type ones. After reading about cerium and tin oxides I ordered 1 lb. of each from therockshed. The cerium oxide is obviously not the same as the ones in the kits (different color) but all the others are white powder. Frustrating and annoying!

I contacted tumblers tumbler and they told me that they use titanium oxide. Lotrone probably use the cheap aluminum oxide.

Chromium oxide for jade? Why use chromium oxide? Does another polish work just as well?

I appreciate your input hurk. I recently purchased some crushed jade to polish. I also have some cerium oxide ordered. So I will probably give it a try. At least I know not to waste my time on the other polishes.

I just ordered 10 # 60/90 5 # 120/220 5 # 600 for 50.00 shipped. For small amounts like this it was the best price i could find. They are in New York so shipping was alot cheaper
