Unless you are hounding offshore at the north end of Madagascar, you don't have to worry about missing Ocean Jasper, as that is the only place in the world that it comes from.

Yup - lots of types of jasper. Ocean Jasper though is a trademark stone from Madagascar. Did you mean jasper from the ocean versus from the land?

So does anyone have any pictures of rough jasper they have found around the Pacific northwest?

There are so few varieties of Pacific North West Jaspers, they are hardly worth mentioning (unless maybe you are writing a book!) 1.) Belvade Jasper - found near Burns Oregon 2.) Biggs Jasper - Biggs Junction Oregon 3.) Blue Mountain Jasper - Near McDermitt Oregon 4.) Carrasite Jasper - SW Oregon 5.) Chinese Dendritic Jasper (aka Owyhee Flower)- 6.) Deschuttes Jasper - Biggs Junction Oregon 7.) Jelly Bean Jasper (aka haystack butte) 8.) Gary Green Jasper (aka Larsonite) - Nevada/Oregon border 9) Rocky Butte Jasper - Owyhee Region of Oregon This list shows about 1% of the jaspers found in the region (at least those that are currently known about!) Although many of these are on private mining claims now, the same areas are full of other un-named and likely undiscovered varieties. Your entire region is one of the best "hot spots" for jaspers in the United States.

Zenz's new Agates II is supposed to have big section on jasper. I ordered one but haven't got it yet so I don't know how complete it is. The identification section of this very site has a few jasper pics with ID's if you go back and look at the posts....Mel
