No clue, but I'd say it's pretty safe to assume that it's volcanic.

It is hard to say without more info...like where was it found; is it magnetic; approximate scratch harness; does it streak and color of the streak....just looking at it without more info would be a WAG...I would be very careful with it...like washing hands after handling because it could be very toxic....bismuth/arsenic families come to mind...so care is the cautious way to approach it until you get a better ID...no licking is allowed!! Looks real similar to a specimen t hat I have of Native Copper. Not sure if that is what it is, but it might be a good place to start. Tony

Need better pics. I would guess hematite due to the black color and the magnetism.

Argh, my eyes. Focus - it's a good thing.
Color and weight certainly suggest hematite and rule out volcanics, lava rock. Take a bit and do a streak test on unglazed porcelain; red streak = hematite.
Locality???

Could just be stalactitic formations of any number of minerals.maybe just calcium carbonate..looks a little like hematite but looking like something doesn't mean it is..could also be what they call a lavacicle(grouping).
