Jay,
I dont believe your area is known for chrysocolla.......and it doesnt have the appearance of any of the chrysocolla that I have from various mines/locales.
Since quartz is so common in the area......if its got some shimmer to it, it could be Aventurine. Shannon

Well, here's a pic of one exposed section of the main Chrysocolla vein at The Blue Mule (pic taken by Steve ... northshorerocks): The vein runs at an angle (as you can see), and bisects the peak of the mountain about twenty feet up from there. I have several exposures of this same vein on the other side of the peak. There are lots of Chrysocolla veins running through this mountain, but only this one vein produces lapidary-quality material, in an apparently endless variety of forms. Almost all of the material has to be broken and/or pryed from the vein. The occurence of well-rounded pieces is very rare. Since this is the only Chrysocolla I've mined, I don't know if other occurences are different, possibly being comprised of rounded pieces instead of a solid vein. If it were me, I'd approach that find like I do most others ... the stone probably CAME from somewhere, so look for the SOURCE. If you find the source, you're much more likely to have some questions answered.

i figured the rocks themself probably came from up the bay or down the bay somewhere but i thought the only reason why it would be rounded was because it right on a very rocky shore and gets beat up pretty bad in the winter and when weather is bad. So kind of natures own tumbler effect if that makes sence. Ill start paying a little more attention to the cliff though....sounds like my mystery stones might be alot more than what i think are.
HEY MICHAEL JOHN IF I BROKE THAT ROCK OPEN WOULD IT BE EASIER TO TELL? MAYBE HIT IT WITH A HAMMER?

Pics of more pieces would probably be more conclusive. No sense in ruining that pretty piece.

doesnt look to be very quartzie....there is alot of quartz in myu area and it looks to have more of a jasper or jadish look to it than anything.....kind of a hard marble like material....if that makes sence....
ill have to look up chalcedony...but who knows......ill wait till i can cut it with a saw....lol.....
i know theres more, ill just have to wait till the weekend.....long days make it hard to look for rocks at night along a rocky ocean shore.....lol..(not recommended)
THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!
