The neighbor had some visitors a couple of evenings ago! She wasn't home and the bird feeder took a big hit. We've seen this pair a few times now, but this time they hung out for a while. I apologize in advance for the videographer's (my wife) best Marlon Perkins imitation, narration and comment! LOL! ;D Steve

Very cool. My mother and brother gave up on trying to feed the birds. They got tired of buying bird feeders. I've seen lots of black bears but never came across one up in a tree. Maybe that's cause I've always got my eyes to the ground. lol Thanks for the vids.

I tried to get some good photos, but everytime I tried to get closer, she gave me a stearn warning to back off. I just don't have enough glass to capture critters consistantly.

That was so cool. Does that kind of thing happen on a regular basis? As much as I like it, I think I'd be a little afraid, especially at night. Ah, but I do love it. All we get at our backyard are ugly bugs and ants.

YIKS! I would not be getting close enough to film them! They are beautiful but wild and, well, hungry. I think the videos are great! Fran

I couldn't hear the narration because my speakers are out but that was a great video. Since baby bears climb trees, will they raid and eat eggs out of nests?
Can't imagine having to worry about kids playing in the back yard though with a mamma bear and cub roaming the area.
I loved watching the video. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, Steve! That was fun to watch! Loved seeing baby bear climbing down one tree and up the other, and that is one big beautiful mama bear! What was she eating?

We live on the edge of the city but, there's miles of forest beyond our house. We see them regularly...mostly in the Spring and then when the apples are on in the Fall. They'll stick around a couple of days and move on.
They're really not looking for trouble...just hungry. Sometimes we have to take the bird feeders down or maybe put the trash can in the garage.
Naturenut: She was cleaning up the sunflower seeds from the bird feeder she just knocked down.
Sitnwrap: Momma can climb too! I'm not sure if they target bird nests or not. It would be a lot of energy expended for very little gained. They're omnivores though, so I'm sure they would take advantage of anything that they ran into.
I don't worry too much about the bears or wolves, but the big cats are a different story.
The kids have been taught over the years some do's and don'ts. You gotta watch your pets too. We had a small dog and cat eating Fisher in the neighborhood last Summer.

They just reintroduced fishers here in PA a few years ago, they had been trapped out in the 1800's. No word on how that has been going though.

LOL. 2d Video, thirty-five seconds in....."you just have to be faster than the slowest person." I'll remember that next time I'm out rockhunting or anywhere there is an animal that can chase me. Be sure there is someone that I can outrun.

Nice videos Steve! I love black bears. Had some in my camp in the Boundary Waters when I was a kid. That was a little too close for comfort.
