Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm a newbie and haven't memorized all the buzzwords yet. Would someone please tell me what this stone is called? It seems to be about the same hardness as agate - I'm guessing it is some form of agate, but I haven't the vocabulary yet. Thanks, Tom

Tom: I'd say it's an example of Crazy Lace Agate out of Mexico....Mel

Yep, it was in with a batch of crazy lace, but it's so different from the rest of the batch that I thought it might be something else. It's completely light grey and white, unlike the wide range of shades in the rest of the batch. So I'll call it crazy lace and be happy. Thanks for the id. Tom

Tom: Cross' book on the agate of Northern Mexico lists a bunch of types of crazy lace. It's a very variable material. In my own collection I have Chinese Writing lace( dying lace) a porous gray and white type, Laguna Lace, Cactus Lace, Noreiga Lace, Zebra Lace, Fine Line Lace ( looks a lot like what you've posted, also sometimes called Victor's lace) Red Lace, Dogtooth Lace, Bubble Lace etc. Really easy to see why this beautiful material is so popular.....Mel

Hey there Mel, Some pics of the different types of lace would be invaluable for those of us who don't know as much as you. Just a thought. Maybe not a good thought, but.......... Jo

Looks like Victor's Lace to me. I've seen it in white and off-white shades.
